Big Five Software

Founded by Bill Hogue, Big Five Software was a relatively small company that was responsible for some big hits. Miner 2049er and Bounty Bob Strikes Back were both favorites of fans and critics, although Bounty Bob Strikes Back didn't receive as much distribution (making it harder to find these days). A third game featuring Bounty Bob was started, called Scraper Caper, but unfortunately it was not completed. Miner 2049er was cited as being one of the first true arcade quality games to be written first for home systems, and it was ported to over 15 different consoles and computers. Hogue started out programming for the TRS-80 Color Computer while he was a salesman at Radio Shack. After writing a number of games for that system, he moved on to the Atari computer, and Miner 2049er was his first offering. Pretty impressive!

Although Big Five released Miner 2049er and Bounty Bob Strikes Back on the 5200, Tigervision licensed and releaesd Miner 2049er on the 2600 (as well as a sequel with more levels, Miner 2049er II). Visit the Big Five Software page for tons of great historical information about Big Five and the games they produced for various systems.
