I'm using the pitch-chart that Tommy created; I think I posted it in the blog a few months ago...(found it).

 

And I'm using capella to write the music. According to my brother, it's the best software out there; he has the licensed version, I use the free one.

 

I also use the java pitchsorter that Tommy wrote occasionally, but Java isn't installed on my home computer so I can only use that at work.

 

For the drums/percussion it is pure trial and error.

 

Basically, I sit down and play with capella, entering notes and trying things until it sounds kinda like what I want - then when I have a few sections done, I plug it into my music driver to hear what it actually sounds like. Most of the drums in the song now are just placeholders that I slapped together very quickly.
