To-Do Lists

So... it's been another two years since the last list.

Stuff has been happening, I just haven't posted updates in awhile. So I thought this would be a good time to reboot the list again. Clean out the old stuff. Donate unused items to Goodwill. That sort of thing.

Development status:  On hold due to issues with Bus Stuffing driver.
    11-18-15: New homebrew project.

    1-30-15: New homebrew project.
11-2-18: "YAUCG" revealed during PRGE interview to be John Champeau's port of Cosmic Avenger.
Homebrews not currently in development, but not completely dead, either:
  • 2600 Toolbox (tentative title)
Description: At some point, I need to make a Stupid Game Ideas! entry for this. The idea is to vastly expand upon the idea of the Test Cart, including color calibration patterns, hardware tests, sound tests, and various patterns for checking color combinations, flickering, and so forth. The cart can be used to test consoles, set up TVs, and be used by homebrewers and artists while developing new games.
Development status: I have a list of things I'd like to see in it, I just need to write it all up, then hope a developer finds it interesting enough to pursue.   ;)
Inactive Homebrew projects:
  • BurgerTime Arcade (was "Fun With Sawdust")*
    Game graphics: Early development.
    Development status: Early development.
    3-2-18: Added to homebrew list.
10-19-18: Added to inactive list, due to Chaotic Grill being in active development.
Miscellaneous projects:
  • AtariAge
    Labels for Trak-Ball hacks.
    10-31-15: Initial concepts
    7-4-16: Re-design in progress
7-6-16: First pass of all labels complete
    7-16-16: Final labels complete
8-7-16: Scans of original game manuals complete
10-9-16: Created banner for PRGE showcasing Trak-Ball hacks
9-30-18: Updated banner for PRGE showcasing Trak-Ball hacks

11-22-18: Created instruction sheets for Trak-Ball hacks
  • Blog
More homebreviews. I need to start slogging through a huge backlog of games.
  • ArcadeCinema.net
Update old MacMAME.net video game movie reviews and redesign website.
  • 2600RM
I want to build a custom, rack-mountable 2600. Could be expensive... could also be awesome.
  • Tronty-Six Hundred
An Atari 2600 Tron console mod. Yes - I want to make this happen for real.
* As always, project names that are in quotes are code-names, and not the actual titles.

I see that Project Bruce has been removed from the list - this is still something that I would like to do one day, and should be much easier using CDF. It doesn’t look like the bus stuffing issues will be resolved any time soon, so Black Squirrell is postponed indefinitely. I’m looking forward to the restart of your high quality home brew reviews! I'd like to see Project Bruce come back at some point. Of course if you want to work on it, I'd be happy to help. ;) But the potential for a C&D on that is pretty high, which is why I haven't been doing anything with it.

I thought bus stuffing had been sorted out by ZackAttack. :?

As for the reviews - hoping to restart those soon. I may have to skip over a few games that I really haven't wanted to play. That's what's been delaying it.

  • 7-4-18: Label sketches in progress for Aardvark.

Any chance you'll take up the Intellivision as a programming platform?  We're currently running an IntyBASIC contest until the 1st of August... better late than never. ;)

I'm not a programmer - I've only worked on game graphics and packaging (labels, manuals, etc). Not any coding.

I'm not interested in the Intellivision. I never owned one, so it has no nostalgic value for me... except as a target. ;)

Hmm... OK.  I could have used without the snarky comic, but fine. *shrug*

Probably shouldn't read through the archives then. ;)

I read through your movie reviews.  Not really into those comics. ;)

  • Report

I love the comic!!

The bus stuffing fix by ZackAttack is quite difficult to use - not really possible with the BUS driver that I previously wrote.    I'm still hoping for a tweak to the Harmony hardware, or that the new UnoCart 2600, will make this unnecessary ...

Update:

  • 7-13-18: "Black Squirrel" has been revealed to be Chris Walton's Bomberman port "Boom". It was shown the other night on ZeroPage's Twitch Stream. You can see the video of it here. Why "Black Squirrel"? Why not? :)

Update:

  • 9-13-18: "Linus and Lucy" officially announced to be John Champeau's Wizard of Wor Arcade. This is an all-new port, not a hack. It takes full advantage of CDF bankswitching as well as a new multi-tap adapter which will allow for two players and an AtariVox to be plugged in at the same time. Why "Linus and Lucy"? When I was developing the sprites, I had placed them all in a mock-up of the maze, running in place. John mentioned that it looked for all the world like the Peanuts gang dancing in A Charlie Brown Christmas. :)

  • 9-30-18: Updated Banner for Trak-Ball hacks for PRGE.
  • 10-8-18: Preliminary labels and banner created for Aardvark's preview at PRGE.
  • 10-10-18: Manual finished for Mappy.

Update:

  • 10-19-18: Moved "Fun With Sawdust" to inactive projects. "Fun With Sawdust" was the code name for BurgerTime Arcade. However, since Chaotic Grill (another BurgerTime remake) has returned to active development, BurgerTime Arcade is on hold. And if you're wondering about the code name, just do a Google search for "sawdust" and "McDonald's". ;)

Updates:

  • 11-2-18: "Otis" was revealed to be John Champeau's work-in-progress port of Elevator Action during a recent ZeroPage Homebrew episode. The game is on hold for now, since Bus Stuffing is required to make the current version work, but Bus Stuffing has compatibility issues with some 2600s. And really... it shouldn't be too hard to figure out why "Otis" was the code name. ;)
  • 11-2-18: "YAUCG" was revealed to be John Champeau's work-in-progress port of Cosmic Avenger during a recent interview at PRGE with ZeroPage Homebrew. "YAUCG" is simply "Yet Another Unreleased Coleco Game". :D It was put aside in favor of completing Scramble and Super Cobra Arcade.

Updates:

  • 11-4-18: Mappy is now for sale in the AtariAge store. It's entry has been moved to Completed Homebrews.
  • 11-22-18: Created instruction sheets for Trak-Ball hacks (which are available in the AtariAge store).
  • 11-29-18: Added a new homebrew project: Zoo Keeper. A new Champ Games arcade port, John has already posted a teaser image online, and this was also mentioned during ZeroPage Homebrew's episode last night. This one didn't even stay secret long enough for me to give it a code name! ;)
