I actually used one of those Atari 26,000 machines this weekend. Pretty cool. I can see them becoming the new PCs as most folks with PCs don't even need them. They just surf, email, and play games.

 

I still say Microsoft missed an opportunity to buy the Atari name when they debuted XBox. Not that they've done too poorly with the XBox name but...

I had a chance to play with an iPad at Best Buy a few weeks ago. Pretty cool device and has lots of potential (especially with iPhone OS 4.0 which at least allows you some semblance of multitasking). I'd use it more as a mobile internet device rather than a gaming device. Easier to lug around than a laptop and easier to do web surfing and keep tabs on emails than my iPhone when I'm in remote places.

I'm waiting on the next model of iPad to see if Apple corrects any of the obvious shortcomings. (Hardware like lack of a camera & SD/USB port, and software like making it easier for non-Apple apps to share data.) OTOH, maybe HP will build a truly amazing iPad alternative with WebOS.

I was planning to use my tax refund to pick up a 3G model, but had an incident with a truck tire tread on the highway that sent my S2000 into the body shop. The refund went towards the deductible instead.

The only problem with that theory is that it's HP.
