antenna in the attic

While talking to my dad via FaceTime, I was showing him the Mac mini TV setup and the new antenna. I mentioned that a couple channels were marginal (such as Retro TV, which would come in during the middle of the night but not at all during the day). He suggested putting the antenna in the attic, so I did:

I mounted it not far from where my network equipment is located, so I put the tuners in with that hardware:

Before I did this, Retro TV would have a signal quality from 30-60. Typically there's no picture if it's below 50, above that it comes in but breaks up every so often until the quality is higher. Now I'm getting a signal quality around 92. Signal Strength used to be lower than 80 as well, though I don't recall the values.

I decided to do another channel scan and the Mac mini found 101 channels, about 20% more than before. I haven't reviewed the new channels yet, will do that for the next update.

I was going to say that typically the flat side of the antenna is pointed at the broadcast antennas. (Unless it's one of those "unidirectional" antennas.)

It's multidirectional. I did try mounting it in a few places and the signal came in best at that location, which happens to be the one where the flat side is pointing at the broadcast tower cluster.
