Up & Down

For years I have wanted a copy of a game beginning with the letter U to complete the 2600 alphabet. (Unfortunately I can't play Xenophobe on my TV because it rolls like it's PAL when it's really NTSC. It does great on my digital TV. Perhaps I should just move the 2600 to the digital TV where every game can be played. Hmm...) I have a goal to get to 350 officially made Atari 2600 cartridges. By "officially made", it means any official game released by Atari or any other company back then or through AtariAge that can be played with joystick or paddles. Right now I am at 338, thanks to the latest game, Up & Down by Sega. It was programmed by Phat Ho. If my name was Phat Ho, I would definitely want to change it. I could go on with a bunch of Phat Ho jokes, but I will try to resist. Seeing as how the only other U game is Universal Chaos, I am leery against Telegames releases for some reason. I have Quest For Quintana Roo made by Telegames. And when you put Up & Down in your Atari 2600 cartridge slot, the name of the game is upside down. As it turns out, I am not very good at it. Or perhaps the controls take some getting used to. Or perhaps the cars try to ram you and kill you on purpose. Or perhaps it's because going off the road makes you die, which is dumb. If you're driving in a field on a path, if you deviate from it, you don't die in real life. And yet you can't deviate from the path on the ramp. What sense does that make? Anyway, 12 more to go!
