Atari 2600 goodness
I just woke up an hour ago. It's 3:15pm right now. Before I went to sleep, I was working on the Francis game for the 2600. I worked on it a long time. I had everything like I wanted it to, except for this mysterious white line to the left of the screen. As it turns out, it was the ball. I thought it was the playfield. So I disabled the ball and it works now. So I went to bed at 1am. While laying in bed, I wondered why there was a big black area below the sky, when in Cellar-y Celery there wasn't one. So an idea struck me and I got out of bed and programmed again. It only took me 15 minutes but I think I solved it. And before I went to bed, I made a website for the game. That website was made at about midnight. Now you can download the current version off of it. I decided to have Francis shoot pencils. That's what the missile is. So I had to think up of something orange for Francis to shoot at (since the missile is missile 1 and Francis is player 0). Well, why not waffles? So I put a waffle in. I did and the game kept acting strange, whenever I had Francis near the waffle's y position, it made him shrink and expand. But even though I had no idea why, I was able to solve the problem, except the missile expanded to 2 pixels high instead of one when the waffle was near. But I made it so the missile is always 2 pixels high. So I went to bed and woke up at about 9 am. Mom left so I went to sleep on the couch so the dog wouldn't be lonely. I kept waking up and checking the clock, and I got sick of it, so it was almost 11 am when I took the dog outside. And I unexpectedly got my screwdrivers in the mail today. They work great. Too bad I don't need them for anything. Here's hoping I will someday. And I woke up an hour ago to find that SpiceWare had solved the paddle problem in Cellar-y Celery. So I put the code in and I had 1 byte left. Wow. I didn't think it was possible, but I think I may have made a fun game to play in 2k. Now that I'm dabbling in assembly, I can now relate to some 2600 programmer's quote (I forget who said it) about not needing 4k to make a fun game. Also, I learned the correct spelling of Francis's middle name is "Ichabod," not as I thought "Icabod." which is odd because I never saw it spelled that way (with an H.)
