So I decided to turn on my game.com to see if it still works. I just bought the internet cartridge, so now all I need is the modem and I'll have everything ever produced for this thing. Well, I turned it on. The calendar was all messed up. Unless January 1997 had 80 some odd days and I just forgot about it. It kept showing garbage and it played a few broken notes. I went to check everything else. Solitaire seemed all right. The phone book was okay. Calculator worked well. The High score function did not work, though. I tapped it and it just went back to the main menu. Cartridges work good. I played a little bit of Frogger. Too bad the high score function wasn't working, I got all the way to level 4 once. Died twice because I didn't see the snake until it was too late. I thought "Why did I die? Oh, there's the snake's head. I jumped right on top of him." He blends in well. But then something miraculous happened. I turned it off and back on again a few times. I went to check the Calendar. It worked. High Score worked again also. It said "Solitaire - 0" I pressed the reset button on the back of the thing, hoping it would work, but it didn't. Until I turned it off and back on a few times. On Memorial Day I'm going to play Indy 500. Seems apt. I found the missing game.com ad I had. It spelled "main menu screen" as "main memu screen." Yep, there's nothing like a handheld with a main memu screen. I still have the extra game.com cartridge in case someone ever finds out how to make homebrew games for it. But I doubt anyone ever will. Found on Frogger's credits screens a few names and a company called "Handheld Games." Too bad it's such a generic title, or I could have googled it. I doubt their website is still up, being almost 20 years later. If anyone knows where Al Baker or Allen Richardson is, let me know. I'd like to interview them for the game.com brotherhood site.
