Intellivoice

So I found my Intellivoice unit after searching the garage clear through (it wasn't in there, it was in the pantry. D'oh.) I tried to get it working. I did. I got Bomb Squad to talk to me. All this because a few days ago I was thinking to myself "why don't you make the Secret Government Waffle Project use the Intellivoice, because not that many games do." Besides, most of the work has already been done on the technical side, INTVBasic has commands for it. So I tried to put in a few phrases for it to say stuff in various situations. The first time all I got was static. So I put in VOICE INIT before each phrase. And guess what? It works! On real hardware! I was using jzIntv to test the Intellivoice on an emulator. I went shopping earlier and got a SD HC card to back up all the rest of the versions (you never know when a stupid computer will die on you.) So that's what I've done yesterday. Just more work on this game. Didn't know Intellivoice would take up so much room. My game before was 17k, now it's 21k. Oh well. I just thought it would be fun to use the Intellivoice and I've never done programming for it before. I guess I should make a list of all the INTV games I can't play because I don't have the ECS and can't play the Coleco games on it.

Oh man! That is so cool.

When I was a kid, I tried to get my parents to buy me an Intellivoice for Christmas. I told them that my brother wanted it too - I assumed he did because we had the ECS extension and he had done some simple programming with the book that came with it. Anyway, he got mad when he saw it, and my parents took it back. I have never owned one, but maybe it's time to find one online so I can start my adventures in IntyBasic.

I believe it is the only programming he has done in all of his life. I think he had Night Stalker in and he was somehow able to get the bat to animate on the screen.

I never had my chance to program anything until I was 19. It has been a slow journey since then.

I have been working on getting some of my junk uploaded in another blog. It's been slow going as I'm trying to retrieve sources and things from a backup I made AFTER my great HD crash of yesteryear. If you are interested, it is here: https://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/blog/72

Stupid that I didn't backup before... I am a computers teacher after all. However, I am a very broke person... and I couldn't afford anything to do it with. My computer is soooo pathetic. Hahah

"If you put an Intellivision game on a black and white TV, would it explode or something? Why say for color TVs only?"

I don't recall any offhand, but I wonder if there isn't something that needs color to be played properly... maybe the instructions or the controller overlays color coincides with something on screen? I don't know. I remember playing Legend of Zelda for the first time on a B&W tv and being completely confused with the candles and boomerang and things that were color coded.

I'm in the middle of a manic episode, so I apologize for the wall of text.

I think a list of INTV games is an interesting idea. There's probably one somewhere already... I wonder if anyone has done a chronology like Dr Sparkles of Chrontendo and Chronsega fame. LOL.
