Christos

Here's a few things I am getting from a very well known Atari ST scener. It was a pleasure doing business with him :)

Some of the very best atari st/falcon software :).

Hi Christos

Would you be interested in selling any/all of the software mentioned in your blog? Or maybee swap for some hardware? I would swap my spare Falcon030 for the lot shown in your "New stuff coming my way!" blog. This is a serious offer.

Thanks for your consideration.

Hi Paul,

thank you very much for your kind offer but I am not in the business of ripping people off. Most of this software is available in the net if you look around and most of it should now be considered obsolete since it has been greatly surpassed by many free software applications from a vibrant Atari community. I would be more than happy to assist you in tracking down applications you need. Simply put, they are not worth a falcon and if I sold it to you I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. :)

On another note, it's nice to have in the community a person interested in using Atari ST applications.

Best regards

Christos

Hi Christos

I appreciate that, thanks. I used all the software that you displayed when I was heavily involved in the scene in the 80's. I would be more than happy to buy them off of you if you were willing to sell them, I fully appreciate that they are now obsolete but I would love to have ful copies with manuals etc. I have two Falcons curently one in daily use and the other sitting in a box at the moment. I uae Atari applications on a daily basis in preferance to my PC which is very high spec. I love the Atari and its desktop. I also appreciate your offer of helping me track down some of the software. I wouldnt consider it being ripped off as I had given my offer much thought. This is the Falcon that I was offering http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...N:IT&ih=012 Would you be interested in selling some of the software (I am not a collector I want to use the software in my use of my Falcon) or perhaps comming to some deal with the Falcon included? I really do appreciate your answer but would love to get my hands on your software. ;) .

Thanks again Christos.

Hi Paul,

I also appreciate your offer but I will not be willing to sell them. You've found a good falcon there at a good price. I strongly suggest you keep it :). My offer still stands on any assistance you might require with any type of software (since it's my habit to test software and give feedback to the authors (at least some times ;)). But I'll tell you this, when something else comes along you will be the first to get it ;).

Hi Christos

Thanks again, I have requests up on news groups, Atari Forums for sftware that I am interested in. If you happen to decide to sell any software please keep me in mind. I am after a good spreadsheet at the moment I was looking for Texel but nobody will sell it to me numerous e-mails to Ash etc and no reply same for Cab 2.6, Kobold and Jinnee 2.5. I am willing to buy the stuff from the vendors but they never respond to my mails. It is very frustrating that is why I offered you the Falcon I got it for a very good price and thought that it would cost me a lot more in time, enerfgy and euros to collect the same software on the net. My list of software wants includes the following:

Jinee 2.5 or last english version of Ease

ImageCopy 4CD

Textstyle

View II

Calligrapher Professional Fonts disks (I am in the process of

purchasing Calligrapher Gold from the USA)

LayoutTC

Didot range of applications

Coma Professional 5

Neodesk 4 and Geneva (Gribnif)

Apex Media (Falcon)

CalAssistant (Calamus Hypertxt help)

PageAssistant (Pagestream 2 Hypertxt help)

Codehead Codekeys (macro utility)

Redacteur 3.15 (English)

I am also after a TT I had one when I was involved in a PD library and in the running of Atari User Group in Edinburgh. I would swap my Falcon and all my gear for a good spec machine.

Thanks and if you could help with any of the above or suggest any better alternatives I would really appreciate it.

Thanks again.

Hello Paul,

In order to suggest to you some software in replacement of the ones you are seeking, I would like to know a bit more about your Falcon. More specifically, RAM size and if it is accelerated or not.

I do have some suggestions for a spreadsheet and browser.

3d calc is a full featured spreadsheet with the only minus that it assumes an ST mono resolution. I think it will work on other resolutions but it will still be colourless.

Highwire. All I have to say is you'll be surprised by the rendering speed. It's a great browser still actively developed.

Another thing I would like to address is the operating system. I have gone MiNT and I am not going back. To give you a feel about MiNT running on a standard falcon please view this

I captured. I personally find little speed difference compared to TOS while it's faster in some instances. XaAES, the AES used in this video is configurable for optimal performance, something that is not the case in this video.

A good replacement desktop is Teradesk but I must admit it doesn't look as good as Jinnee or Gemini.

Also if you could describe your requirements from a program I am sure I could help more.

As I' ve written before I am extremely happy to see Atari users in the scene. Users that are interested in creating stuff using their machines. Hope this can help you a bit to decide what's best for you and I am awaiting for your answer.

Hi Christos

Thanks for the comprehensive reply I really appreciate it. My Falcon has 14mb ST RAM, 16mb TT RAM, CT Accelerator @ 50HZ both IDE & SCSI II drives. I have used 3D Calc and never got on with it to be honest. I tried the demo of Texel and it was exactly what I was after. My main aim is to run my business completely on my Falcon and then design a website with my experiences, applications that I used to help inform others that Ataris can be used in business etc. The format would be to document everthing that I needed to create for my business and show the results, how I achieved the results etc. This came about after I was challenged to run the business on my Falcon rather than my pc (my wifes idea "if the falcon is as good as you say it is then run run the bloody business with it"). I am at the preparitry stage of collecting everything that I need i.e. hardware and software. I will need to be able to design news letters, stationay, memos, accounts, database, faxing, e-mail and web design etc. My Falcon is not connected to the net yet. I am waiting for an ethernet solution to become available that I can buy.

I am currently mostly using the TOS that comes with the CT card I am looking at other versions such as Mint, Geneva etc. Mint always looks difficult to install to me but I have not given it much time to be honest.

I will look at the videos that you linked to. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Good morning Paul,

I see your problem now. I am not sure whether your investment can pay off but let me try and see for how much of what you want I can offer solutions.

First of all your hardware specs scream MiNT. I admit it's not for everyone to get deep into but at least the installation process is a piece of cake with EasyMiNT. You also said you'd be looking for a DTP package. Calamus is still available for purchase, in that case you may want to try the Lite Edition which is cheap and has many functionalities. It's slow in my falcon but yours is about 3-5 times faster than mine so it should fly there. Another thing you need is a word processor and nothing is better than Papyrus which you can find for purchase at 16/32. It is my humble opinion that Papyrus is expensive at 100 Euros especially for an abandoned piece of software but I understand that you want to use original or free software. It may worth checking with the owner whether he has some second hand software at a cheaper price. You also want to design webpages and Joe is a very good HTML editor. It's not a WYSIWYG editor and I don't know much about HTML. However the author is reachable and that's a big plus.

It's going to be a tedious process and an expensive one, mostly because we are pc spoiled and at some point we lost touch. Also feel free to add me in MSN for real time communication, if you use that service.

Regards

Christos
