I always liked Megamania, except for the player's death - it always seemed very unsatisfying. I wanted explosions!

 

It's essentially a knock-off of Astro Blaster. Except without the docking sequence and voice: "Pilots needed in sector wars... play Astro Blaster!" One of the more under-rated classic arcade games.

Agreed, Astro-blaster is greatly underrated and overlooked. I think that's at least part of Megamania's appeal, it captures that same spirit.
