Marvel vs. Capcom Origins Achievement Glitch

Hi there!   First time ever I experienced a broken achievement/trophy:     As you can see, it is required to win 100 matches in MvCO, but even though it says I have 100/100 matches won, the achievement won't register.   Greetings, Manuel

Here I blog again?

Hi there!   Just figured that it's been over two years since I wrote my last proper entry here. I wonder if I should possibly blog some more about my Capcom-Mania here. As you may know from some of my posts in classic/modern gaming, I'm trying to 100% complete every European released Capcom game in existance, more or less in chronological order. Right now I'm playing "X-Men - Children of the Atom" on the Playstation, which is the #63 Capcom game I'm playing in this 'mission'. Out of the previo

Mission: Beat all European Released Capcom Games #01

Hi there!   I started this mission in early in 2011 and now have a first milestone covered: I'm done with the first 10 games!   What follows is the list of games I'm already done with, adding a few comments to each. What is true for all of them, is that I beat each on the default difficulty and without cheating. I did use stuff like built-in auto fire and continues though. For the games played through the "Capcom Classics Collection" I additionally unlocked all available extras.   Ghosts'

Playing Scramble Spirits (C64)

Hi there!   So this is what do you get, when a lame programming team converts a lame arcade:     The main problem with this Sega conversion, which is immediately obvious, are the graphics. They're so bad, that even now after completing the game I couldn't tell whether this Xevious clone featured spaceships or aeroplanes   The best part of this vertical shoot'em up game by far is the nice title music. During play you only get to hear some constant mix of firing and explosion noise, usin

Playing Snoopy and Peanuts (Amiga)

Hi there!   Yet another license game, albeit with graphics amazingly close to the TV Show:     The graphics of this game were really quite good, even in motion. The whole rest of it... is another story though...   So what we got here is some kind of an adventure game. The story is pretty simple: Linus has lost his blanket and it is Snoopys mission to get it back to him.   In order to to so, he's moving back and forth through the 20 screens of this game. In the 5th or 6th room you can

Playing Magic Johnson's Basketball (C64)

Hi there!   Magic Johnson, a name in Basketball so big, even I heard of him!     Okay, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan got video games too, so I knew them as well   In school I always preferred Basketball over Soccer, since I was rather big and slow than small and fast. So unlike in Soccer, I managed to score in Basketball once a month   Well, the game is slightly better than the Soccer games I tried recently, but nowhere near a classic like e.g. Street Sports Basketball or TV Sports

Playing Space Harrier II (C64)

Hi there!   This is definitely a first: A Genesis game that got ported to the C64:     At least unless there was a Space Harrier 2 Arcade machine. (But I don't think there was one, or?). It's not unique though, as another one of Segas Genesis games, World Championship Soccer, got ported to the C64 as well.   Like Afterburner II on the Genesis, the 'II' in the name is more cosmetic and compared to the original Space Harrier it feels a lot more like Space Harrier V1.2   This Space Har

Playing Die Hard (C64)

Hi there!   Hans Gruber, Holly Gennaro and John Mclane on the C64:     I had way too high expectations regarding this game, since I thought it was the follow up to one of my all-time favorites, Project Firestart. Further research surprisingly (for me at least ) revealed though, that just the DOS version was made by Dynamix. The C64 port unfortunately was made by the same team that did the horrible Roger Rabbit game before.   Now this is really weird. So Dynamix, who had the Project Fire

Playing Nuclear War (Amiga)

Hi there!   Nuking it out once again with Ronnie Raygun and Gorbachef:     Now that was one game that I totally loved back in the day. I really can't think of many other games operating on such an insane level of black humor   In its core Nuclear War is a dead simple, board game like strategy game. You choose four computer opponents out of a selection of strangely familiar looking faces and then you fight against them to the death on a simple map that is divided into 5 continents, one

Playing Champions of Krynn (Amiga)

Hi there!   Red Areemers are called Draconians in the Dragonlance universe:     After all the rather so-so games lately, it's been about time to spend some higher quality gaming time once again. Of course another AD&D game is always welcome in my house, especially one that dives into a new scenario: After three "Forgotten Realms" games SSI finally showed the Dragonlance universe some love!   Before it actually turned into fun, Champions of Krynn required some work. First thing was t

Playing Street Cred Football (C64)

Hi there!   I know it's hard to tell from the screenshot, but as usual that's European Football, not American:     Well, well... here I thought it'd be absolutely impossible to make a C64 soccer game worse than Fighting Soccer, but here we have a programming team called "Wow Software", that definitely tried very hard to claim the "All Time Worst C64 Soccer Game" award!   As the name alreadly indicates, "Street Cred Football" tries to provide the experience of a backyard 5-A-Side-Soccer

Playing Doctor Doom's Revenge (C64)

Hi there!   The Amazing Spider-Man and Captain America in Doctor Doom's Revenge:     That definitely is by far the longest title of a game I've been "Playing..." so far!   Ah well, after seeing games based on DC Comics like Batman and Superman, it's been about time that finally a brave developer (Paragon Software) made a game based on Marvel Comics. Not that Captain America or Spider-Man would be real favorites of mine - I've always been much more into the X-Men. At least, with Dr. Doo

The Damned on facebook!

Hi there!   There you go: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Damned-Fan-Page/174019602646922   Well, this could be the smallest blog entry I ever wrote, but let me highlight this bit from one for their first status entries:   "Wheels are in motion for the Damned touring the United States in October. And we don't just mean California. For official updates please like our page."   Greetings, Manuel

Playing P47 Thunderbolt (C64)

Hi there!   After Psycho Pigs UXB another Jaleco Arcade game got converted to the C64:     Unfortnately though, this one is complete trash. It should be quite a challenge to find a worse C64 programming team than the makers of this conversion. I've never seen a multiload with such horrible, horrible graphics. The ugly mess you see above is one of the best looking scenes of the game already, I swear. What you can't see is the stuttering scrolling and the almost non existent sprite animatio

Playing Super Cars (C64)

Hi there!   So when the NES had RC Pro Am, the C64 had Super Cars instead:     Well, at least it had a port of the first Super Cars, the sequel was on 16-Bit machines only. The Super Cars games were written by Shaun Southern, who wrote tons of C64 games before, like both Trailblazers, but as far as I know did he not do the C64 port himself. At the time he was also responsible for "Lotus" series of racing games, so he probably was way too busy with 16-Bit coding at the time.   At first g

Playing Moonwalker (C64)

Hi there!   I never saw the movie, but I always liked the Sega game. The U.S. Gold one here... not so much:     Good old Michael Jackson... I've never been a really big fan of his music, but I actually do have "Bad" on vinyl. There's some pretty good music on it. I like some more of his songs, like Billy Jean, but overall I don't ever thought of him as the King of Pop or so. Even in his prime time I always preferred Prince.   So I never saw Moonwalker. Like e.g. the Super Mario Bros. mo

Playing Ninja Warriors (C64)

Hi there!   So when you cross Robots with Ninjas, you get Ninja Warriors:     Not to be confused with Ninja Warriors Again (not Turbo! ) from the SNES, which is the sequel, this is the conversion of an original Taito Arcade. In case you're wondering about the narrow screenshot, that's because the gimmick of the Arcade was that it had 3 monitors mounted in a row, giving it a pretty wide display. And what you see above is what the clever conversion team figured to be the best solution to r

Playing Switchblade (C64)

Hi there!   Beware! Another case of "don't judge a game by its graphics" ahead!     This production got me puzzled a bit, since the original Amiga version of Switchblade was Core Designed, yet the C64 version was converted by Gremlin themselves. Normally Core would handle the C64 version on their own, we even saw some Arcade games they converted to it, like Action Fighter or Dynamite Düx. Regardless, Gremlin did a pretty good job here.   Switchblade is a platformer in the tradition of t

Playing North & South (C64)

Hi there!   Infogrames wouldn't give up on licensing comics - after Tintin on the Moon came North & South:     I have fond memories of this one, spending hours upon hours playing the Miggy version against my cousin 20 years ago. I don't think I ever saw the C64 version, so finally checking it out was a must. Funny enough, this 8-Bit conversion was again made by Probe Software with music from the Maniacs of Noise. I remember playing their last collaboration like it was just yesterday
