7-ZIP takes that long because it has to decode the "Flavor", "Spin", and "Colour" of the quarks on the hard-drive platter.

 

I use 7-ZIP the tool, but never 7-ZIP the format. gz is as fancy as I'll go. Although rumor has it that 7-ZIP can compress a 4K Atari binary down to just 3 bytes, if you've got a couple hours to kill.

Well sure, 3 bytes could denote up to ~17 million different ROMs. Just need a big lookup table, that's all.

I loaded 7 zip and never again. Crashed the OS Windows 7 then would not uninstall and to make matters worse would not allow anything to be loaded the even remotely looked zipped or compressed. Spent days attempting to fix OS after I installed this crap software. Forced to reinstall the Windows 7 OS from scratch.

So I hate 7 Zip for good reasons.
