The Adventure 2600 Metal Book!

Crazy Climber

blog-0203153001410363431.jpgThis all started when a friend of mine requested a metal Book for a project. At first I thought it would be impossible with the machines and materials I have access to but after a few tries I came up with a design that seems to work well and capture the look of a "metal book"

I used a thin professionally painted deep bronze 0.040 Sheet metal aluminum for the cover, then CNC etched graphics on it and the spline. Using a V cutter I made a groove on the edges to bend it around the "pages" (I mainly just didn't want to drag a brake press set up time into an already rather time consuming project) The pages are made from a stacked .160 thickness Composite aluminum with a fire rated core. I went with fire rated composite as it tends to have a lighter color core (white) as opposed to regular composite (black) I figured the white would better represent book pages. Ideally I would have like to use a very thin 0.020 aluminum sheets stacked for the pages but that would just get crazy expensive, lol

Just grab the top to pop it open to reveal the Adventure wall set...

I used a thin 0.060 aluminum sheet for most of the pieces. The key is made from a High Polished aluminum composite mirror finish piece and the gate is made from a chunk of perforated aluminum we had lying around the shop that I convinced my boss to sell me :)

The overall goal here was to make a little collectable that could be displayed with an atari collection

I might make another one in the future, pondering a Berzerk one since I already have all the sprites drawn and they just look so cool made out of metal :)
