----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Originally posted by me in the online forums of the Web3D Consortium.Originally titled: It's been a whileApr 23, 2005http://www.web3d.org/----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, as the title suggest, it has been awhile since I last posted. Progress on the RawKee plug-in has moved more slowly as of late. In March, just before the Web3D Symposium, I attended the Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology (CAA) conference in Tomar, Portugal. That took over a week out of my development time. And after being gone for a week, I lost about another week just catching up with items that I let laps while gone.We are also hosting the 2006 CAA here in Fargo next April. As I am on the organizing committee, I generally lose a day each week dealing with CAA related items. I am involved in setting up the conference site, web site, and organizing events. Getting online credit card transaction capability for accepting registration payment has been a general hassle.I've also been involved with supervising an NDSU web-design minor student who is creating Flash demos of MedX3D applications. Working with X3D, Flash, Video, and CT data has posed some unique challenges. The video was shot by another person and sent to us as WMV format, which isn't compatible with Flash. When exported as QT video for import into Flash, the video's audio track seems to become unsyncedo. We've worked around the problem, but nothing ever seems to go as smoothly as a person plans.Anyway, back to RawKee. We've been pushing hard to get a 0.4 release out. The 0.4 release will have support for all interpolators and sequencers found in the immersive profile as well as all sensors and event utilities such as triggers, toggles, filters, and script nodes. Most of the MEL export procedures found in RawKee 0.1.4 have been converted to C++ code, which has provided a great increase in export speeds. Also the routing inteface has been significantly altered to support this change. Combining all these features into a single system has been slowing me down. Add to that fact that we are trying to stay as OS independent as possible, it seems have become a daunting task. However, it is still doable.I had hoped to have 0.4 relased this week, but the MedX3D and the CAA conference organization tasks blew away most of my allotted RawKee time. However, next week is looking good for 0.4 release, as I am going into work this weekend to wrap up the export code conversion. We've compiled the latest build for 4.5-6.5 on Windows and 6.0-6.5 on OSX. While the OSX build actually compiled, we're having problems getting Maya to recognize the library. Once we get that problem conquered, people can probably count on a version for Linux shortly there after as well.Other things related to RawKee:My paper submission to Siggraph was rejected. Oh well.A RawKee User's group was started by someone other than myself. If you're interested, please visit the following URL:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RawKeeUsers/My next post will probably at the time of the 0.4 release.Later,Aaron
