Seaweed Assault Code Is on the bB Page

Posted by Random Terrain, in Atari_2600, batari_Basic_(Atari_2600) 28 January 2016 · 473 views

It took almost 2 months, so I'm very happy to be done cleaning up the code for Seaweed Assault:

It was tedious work, but I'm glad I did it so it will be easier for me to adapt some of the code for other programs. Now it's time to get Gyvolver finished.

Back to Gyvolver (Atari 2600 WIP)

Posted by Random Terrain, in Atari_2600, batari_Basic_(Atari_2600) 03 January 2016 · 599 views

I've been cleaning up the code for Seaweed Assault so I can put it on the batari Basic page and ideas about Gyvolver (the unfinished scrolling game from 2008 ) have been popping into my head. It could take the rest of January before the Seaweed Assault code is ready for people to see, so I thought I'd post this to help get Gyvolver off my brain for t...

Able to Test batari Basic Games on a Real TV Again

Posted by Random Terrain, in Atari_2600, batari_Basic_(Atari_2600), Personal_Stuff 17 October 2014 · 646 views

After getting a smaller computer desk a couple of years ago, I no longer had room for my little color TV. I had to jump through hoops to make my Atari 2600 work with the LCD HDTV that I use with my computer and Xbox 360. It looked OK, but it wasn't the same as 'normal' TV.

My sister was getting rid of her 20 inch flat screen TV since she moved on t...

7800 Thoughts Are Making Me Happy

Although I've had an Atari 7800 for a long time, I didn't pay that much attention to the guts of it. I knew it could play most Atari 2600 games, but I didn't know until fairly recently that Atari 7800 games used the same sound chip as Atari 2600 games unless the POKEY sound chip is in the cart. I've heard people talk about the POKEY sound chip for years,...

DPC+ Version of ChipOff for the Atari 2600 Is Finally Done

You can try it here:

I should have finished it back in 2013, but I was too busy procrastinating. I got new glasses in April of 2014 and now it's much easier to concentrate. I hope this means I'll keep chugging along and get some new games made.

I hope this won't be the first and last game of mine to get into the AtariAge store. I'd like to make more games, including a semi-original adventure game, but with the DP...

I'm Getting Really Tired of Working on My Web Site

Posted by Random Terrain, in batari_Basic_(Atari_2600), RandomTerrain.com 30 May 2013 · 1,094 views

Seems like links and YouTube videos go dead faster than you can blink. You have to check videos by hand and links by hand too since link checkers suck at telling you when a link redirects to a new page. Then there's the Google problem. Google tells web site owners to be natural and that you shouldn't make your pages for them, but then they contradi...

The Adventures of Siltchy Stilch

Posted by Random Terrain, in batari_Basic_(Atari_2600) 09 January 2013 · 588 views

When I started to fall asleep yesterday, the name Siltchy Stilch  popped into my head. I thought it might be a good name for a character in a book or a video game. Since I don't write books, I'll see if I can use the name in a future batari Basic   game for the Atari 2600.Random Terrain  __

Goodbye 2012

Posted by Random Terrain, in batari_Basic_(Atari_2600), Personal_Stuff 31 December 2012 · 892 views

I didn't get much done in 2012, thanks to Cymbalta  . It did a great job eliminating the neuropathy pain in my feet, but it made me tired all of the time and it also caused me to yawn a lot. After taking it most of the year, I decided to stop. It took about 2 months for the withdrawal symptoms to fade away. Lucky, I only had "brain zaps" and d...

Seaweed Assault is Almost Finished

Looks like the bugs are gone and it has a steady scanline count of 262:

Once I get some more feedback and make little recommended changes here and there, then add an Easter egg of some kind, the game should be ready to put on cart if...

VbB Music and Sound Editor Happiness

Posted by Random Terrain, in batari_Basic_(Atari_2600) 17 September 2011 · 839 views

It might sound silly, but I thought I'd mention that the Music and Sound Editor is making me happy today.

I've been working on some new sound effects and I was thinking that it's so much easier and more fun thanks to the...

Seaweed Assault: The Sticky Stays

Posted by Random Terrain, in batari_Basic_(Atari_2600) 05 September 2011 · 609 views

I've been playing around with making the seaweed less 'sticky' when players get themselves into tight situations.

One version I tried decreases the health bar by one notch and kicks the player out of the seaweed. If there is a long line of seaweed, the player could potentially get knocked through the line of seaweed (across the whole screen)....

Seaweed Assault: Game Over Animation

I animated the Game Over message so it would match the underwater theme of the game. You can try the .bin file here if you want:

Seaweed Assault: Variable Overhaul

Nobody has to read these Seaweed Assault blog entries. I'm just using them as motivation (showing that progress is being made). I'll also use these entries to 'think out loud' about various things I might want to do.

To make it...

Back to Seaweed Assault

Time to get Bloober and the Gnarl finished for the Atari 2600 (batari Basic game)

Posted by Random Terrain, in batari_Basic_(Atari_2600) 21 August 2011 · 830 views

It seems like I have crawled out of the fog enough to get a game finished. I was starting to get there with Seaweed Assault, but there were still things about bB I wasn't clear about. Now that I've spent more time working on example...

Goodbye batari Basic

Posted by Random Terrain, in batari_Basic_(Atari_2600), Personal_Stuff 30 October 2010 · 568 views

"Goodbye batari Basic" is what I seem to say too many times because of distractions, procrastination, and various other things. This time I got pulled away from the game I was working on by a free download of Fable 2 for the Xbox 360, then I had a tooth pulled almost a week ago (25th of October) and the antibiotics are making me hungry,...

Scrolling Game is Rolling Along (Part 5)

Posted by Random Terrain, in batari_Basic_(Atari_2600) 20 March 2010 · 665 views

Scrolling Game is Rolling Along (Part 5)

I loaded an old version of the program to help guide me, but since variable names changed and how I did things changed, it was twice as hard to convert nybble variables back to regular ones, but I got it done and everything seems to be working. Now that I'm using regular variables again, it will be easier...
