Hamburgers again.

Posted by atari2600land, in Commodore 64 09 February 2019 · 42 views

My burger game was giving me fits. The burger was sometimes blinking for a frame, disappearing. I asked for help in Lemon64, and someone was kind enough to test the game for me and said it was working fine. So I guess I'll chalk this up to my computer being a stupid moron and continue work.

Before this, I successfully added another song to the game...

Back to the Commodore 64

Posted by atari2600land, in Commodore 64 08 February 2019 · 45 views

So I finally got my hands on my copy of l'Abbeye des Morts. Funny story. I apparently accidentally put in an old address I had. And that's where it got delivered. Lucky for me, the guy who it got delivered to contacted them (how, I don't know), and told them about it so they sent me an e-mail. They said the guy would put it outside his porch and I went an...

Score!

Posted by atari2600land, in Commodore 64 14 December 2018 · 66 views

So last night, I finally put a score in the game. I could make a longer one if I wanted, since the score is basically just showing numbers, like in my Game Gear games. I was so wrapped up in thinking that a score needed to be a variable that I forgot about that option, displaying numbers on the screen like that. So NOW I'll take a break because I don't kn...

Pea-brained

So I finally worked out a couple problems with my Commodore 64 game and now I can continue. One of the problems was solved fairly easily, while the other took quite a long time. In the end, I figured out what the problem was. And then I figured out how to stop it. That second part was the one I spent the most time on. The problem: The computer was registe...

Double digits

Posted by atari2600land, in Commodore 64 12 December 2018 · 85 views

Milestone today. I got Congo Bongo for the Commodore 64 in the mail today. It works fine, the only issue is it's really hard. If you gave me a million years to complete level 2, I don't think I ever could. Talk about a sharp increase in difficulty! Anyway, my Commodore 64 cartridge collection now stands at 10. I am puzzled over my game I was making, I hav...

Collision detection fun.

Posted by atari2600land, in Commodore 64 12 December 2018 · 67 views

It's one of those cases where the game looks exactly the same but the code is different. In this case a lot different. I noticed some stuff. Like how sometimes if the burger is touching the cloud and the fry hits the broccoli the broccoli doesn't disappear. So I slowed the game down a little. Didn't help. I saw something though. I wondered if I could dete...

Christmas comes early

Posted by atari2600land, in Commodore 64 10 December 2018 · 67 views

Got 4 packages in the mail today. Gee, what the mailman must think of me. I ordered these on separate days, and they all came on the same day. 4 Commodore 64 games, 2 Game Boy games and a 2600 repro were all added to "the collection." I was working on something until 2am, then I worked on my Commodore 64 game for a while. Went to sleep at about 3:30am and...

Keep it simple

Posted by atari2600land, in Commodore 64 09 December 2018 · 78 views

So I had some long convoluted code in order to keep the bits in $d010 under control. Then it occurred to me that I could probably just turn the bits on and off instead of changing the whole value at once. One Google search later led me to how to do this. I added the vegetable in, a lovely piece of broccoli. Thus leading me to only have 34 lines of code ex...

Meeting SID

Posted by atari2600land, in Commodore 64 08 December 2018 · 95 views

No, not Sid Caesar. No, not SID the Spellbinder, the SID, the one responsible for Commodore 64 sounds. It stands for Sound Interface Device. With help from AtariAge member carlsson, I now have sound in my game. It takes some getting used to talking to SID, but once you know what to say to it, it will reply with glorious music (well, as glorious as you can...

The sounds of silence

Posted by atari2600land, in Commodore 64 08 December 2018 · 101 views

I guess my game is going to have to be silent. I made a .sid file, I found some code on how to activate the SID. I put it in. Nothing. I tried it with just the code, creating an all-new .asm file. Silence.

But at least my game is looking a little bit better after adding the French fry to shoot. That was one heck of a few hours of cursing and yellin...
