If I can wrangle my sleep schedule, I could play it poorly on-stream one night this month. -
800XL startup RAM test fail options
WOPRpwJOSHUA replied to WOPRpwJOSHUA's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Thanks @TZJB , yeah not sure what to think about the (RF-to-plasma) red screen + "Enter" gets to the menu, but I won't worry about it. I tested voltage of various configs (RF, monitor/composite, +cart, + running heavy graphics, etc.) and voltage was (still) very stable after recap of C1, and the machine runs very cool. Both TV's play very nice via monitor/composite. I'll play w/TV & 800XL to try and fine tune (and recover the muted ship in asteroids, etc), which was less and issue on the plasma anyway. So I guess sourcing an s-vid cable and a shielded jacket, and then some cutting+soldering? I'll check forums, I think the loudest complaint is difficulty in soldering to the shielding IIRC. I'd still much rather find a nice double shielded s-vid and take it form there. Bizarre that no one is making one. I def am considering a TV/monitor w/the inputs. It's just a shame to have to go that route when I have a monitor and large plasma in an already small office room. I'm looking over the Sophia/etc. options now to get an idea of which one I'd most want to do if I go that route. Thanks again -

Dang, I want one of those. I do not have any arcade machines, but that would be a good first one. -
I've been using it with the GUI. I haven't experienced any problems or differences yet.

Atari announces Yars Rising reboot from Shantae creator WayForward
Razzie.P replied to PowerDubs's topic in Atari General
wow... so WayForward -- we have this game made that's pretty cool. Not sure what to do with it, though. Atari -- can you stick Yars in the title somewhere? WayForward -- Done! Atari -- "We're pleased to announce a new game based on the beloved classic "Yars' Revenge" Oh well, it's WayForward so I'm still confident it'll be a cool game. -

Pi Pico[W] Peripheral Expansion Box Side Port Device

I'm starting to suspect that the power supplies on both of my computers are a little too noisy to run this board. I looked at the schematic of the TI power supply and I was surprised that the +5Volts supply is fed off of the 7812 regulator. I was thinking of replacing the 7812 and 7905 regulators with switching regulators like the N7812-1PH , as well as replacing some of the caps, but it may be better to replace the power supply with something newer. What power supply did you replace your original supply with? -
We have a buildable source, so I'd be willing to make any updates required. I've so far ran into 2 issues. As you noticed, have to rename the generator due to 64 in the filename. Also, when I ran it, it was not outputting files to a Generator folder, but in the root where the exe was ran.

I tried different configurations at home, the demo runs fine on Atari800MacX with AltirraOS. It also runs on real hardware (600XL PAL/U1MB/VBXE) from AVG-Cart. I had no luck with Side3 and A8PicoCart. Nice demo btw!

You're welcome How long you hold onto a game does depend on the game and the location - I still have a few games that I opened with 16 years ago as they still earn consistently. But when it comes time to say goodbye, yeah, there is a decent used market out there. Many locations just focus on new stuff because that's what makes money, but for those who don't have unlimited budgets like Dave & Busters or Round1, they'll tend to look for some good deals on used. You have to have a really old game with a name for collectors to be interested in it. I probably should put my prototype Hydra up for sale here soon or sell off my Pitfall II...pretty sure those would go to a collection and not an arcade, unless a game museum wanted them. Once in a while, there is something that you can't seem to move at all. It sucks, but that's where you just end up scraping or selling the cab off for super cheap. I've only done that with things that aren't special - generic cabinets or a weird indie game that was too custom to do anything with on something else (a tank game from a now defunct manufacturer I had to junk as I couldn't get parts for it anymore). I have a racer I might have to do that with, as every time I've listed it for sale, no one bites, no matter what the price (well, I haven't listed anything for free...would be nice to recoup a few bucks from it, at least for the cabinet).

Great you got a 64 bit version working! I'm testing beta8 version with 8 threads and 100000 solutions (yeah, that probably is dumb) on a picture that's been running days now. It did start around 1GB memory usage, but it's surpassed 3GB now. However, with /continue it is no big deal from previous experience if RastaConverter stops - The memory use starts off low again and continues with no seeming issues. Not Ilmenit's problem but RCGUI may behave weirdly with beta9? Will fiddle to see what works nicely or not (apart from renaming executable to RastaConverter.exe)
-
@ilmenit - tiny request. Would it be easy to make the command line parameters be visible in the title bar like with previous versions? I've got in the habit of just snapping an image of my progress window and it lets everyone see what options I used during the conversion. 1st attempt with beta9 - great results! Bald Eagle, 71 colours. Settings were jarvis, strength 3, randomness 0.8, 8192 solutions, gamma 0.7 Stephen_BaldEagle.xex

Thank you, that worked, the only combination I did not try, of course 😕

Ran across this video on YouTube last night about Whisky. It uses Wine and Apple's Game Porting toolkit to run Windows games. The example video walks thru installing and running games from Steam. I don't have many games in Steam, and most of the games I have do not run (denoted with 🚫) on my current Mac (a Studio with Apple's M2 Ultra CPU): So I installed Whisky, then install Steam in Whisky. The 🚫 symbol does not show up by any of the games: Haven't played Peggle in years so decided to install it. When I launched it the program displayed the Loading screen for long time: Long enough that I thought it hung. I let it be though, and it eventually finished loading. I started a game: and while it did run the audio and game both stuttered. Did a little research, found this, and did the following in Whisky which resolved the stuttering issue: File -> Kill All Bottles Click on Winetricks... Select DLLs tab Select dsound click Run... Run Steam Launch Peggle

@DZ-Jay Thank you very much for your detailed answer, and for even providing a bug fix to the instrument / drum problem! I know that kind of "I fixed this 10 times" bugs myself I think I will go with 1.5 for now. There is actually no need to implement new features only for me. After all, its my first game and I want to leave some place for improvements for my next game I have already added arpeggio, vibrato and envelope support to my converter. I only need drum support, then I will make a test track and show my results. -

Thank you for your suggestions! Unfortunately enabling Guest Access in SMB didn't seem to change anything. Still cannot access the TIPI from my Windows 10 or Windows 7 computers. Tried both file browsers and web browsers to no avail. The web browser seems to act like the web address doesn't exist. And file explorer doesn't act like it exists either. For fun I also tried hooking my Pi up with an Ethernet cable. Still have the same issues. While having the cable connected I also tried to access DM2K from the ftp.whtech site and still get a solid blue screen and nothing more.

Is there any way to update my submission, I’ve found a bug slowing down the game in some conditions? I’ve also added the distance covered in game over screen.
