  2. I don't know. It's already a mirecle™️ pdubs only created one... Regarding the lack of connection with the original game, it's not that surprising to me and I think we will see more of this from Atari in the future. As we discussed before many times, Atari franchises didn't evolve regularly like Nintendo ones did. So it's very difficult to envision what would a Yars' Revenge game look like in 2024 if other games in the series had regularly been released for the past 40 years... It would have probably evolved quite a lot from the OG, great but basic formula, even though I agree it wouldn't be a Metroid-like. That's why I'm not entirely positive about the game; WayForward just picked the genre they master the most (or Atari asked them to), which is a bit lazy imho. And it was done to death, so I'm personally not excited at all, especially since I don't like the anime style either. WayForward is a talented developer but I don't like everything they've done. But using Advance Wars as an example is dumb since it's a remaster; the content is basically unchanged from the original Intelligent Systems games, and only the art style is new. It's OK to dislike it, but it really corresponds to WayForward's style so there's no reason they might have "improved" since, on the contrary.
  3. The 9901 interrupt pin was an interesting gotcha too... I accidentally turned on interrupts on the joystick left line when I added the SID Blaster support to Super Space Acer. I didn't realize it was interrupts until I asked ArcadeShopper to try it and he reported that it lit up the PEB. Basically, I was turning on the SID blaster by writing to the keyboard column select at CRU 24. But, I accidentally wrote >24. The result was holding left would freeze the game while the console ROM tried to figure out which DSR asked for an interrupt. Since Classic99 didn't support 9901 pin interrupts, there was no real help there. >24 is 36, but the CRU pin space is only 32 bits long, and Classic99 also wasn't wrapping the address around in that space like it was supposed to. (Bit at address 4 is joystick left.) Soooo.. those two changes to the 9901 code came out of my needing several days to figure that out. Though it's kind of neat to know that yes, joystick and keyboard inputs can trigger interrupts.

  6. I never thought I would build a DOS gaming machine - but I saw the Micro 8088 project and thought it was neat. I get to truly build my own PC, not by plugging boards into an old PC but from the chip level. So I am currently building out a system - I am going to use the NEC V20 processor and a 8087-1 math co processor. Here is a photo of the 3D printed case, I printed and a Sound card installed (I did not build the Sound Card) - I am still waiting on some of the parts (so many parts) I ordered to get here.
  7. This update is worth mentioning - file system fix. It's a gotcha. Classic99 399.069 This fixes a detection issue accessing DF128 headerless on FIAD if any part of your disk path contains a period (assuming an extension exists, which isn't allowed). It was checking the entire path instead of just the filename. Note you can always bypass that restriction using the ".?X" option (ie: DSK1.?X.WIN.EXE would allow opening an exe as DF128). Also: mute "Skipped 0 sentences on shut up" message (we don't care if it was 0) fixed case of DLL load on FilterDLL.dll and hq4xdll.dll for those running from case sensitive filesystems. (If you renamed the DLLs, you may have to rename them back). emit a warning in the debug log if loading a DSR to an invalid CRU base correct address wraparound in the 9901 address mapping add interrupt pin warning to debug log in the 9901 emulation (Classic99 does not support 9901 hardware interrupts) don't spam the same debug statement repeatedly to the log (note: no timeout. If you NEED to see a repeated statement, force another one in between. For instance, press Control to get the speech clear debug) also note the external debugger (debugview) is NOT filtered this way, so that you have best visibility there Given that bug has been in there since I first added DF128 headerless support, it's probably a pretty obscure case. But there was no help in the debug log when it happened, so worth fixing. As usual, the web site may require 24 hours to update but the download zip is uploaded (edit: looks like I got in right before the update ran ) https://harmlesslion.com/software/classic99 (Regarding the 3 uploads comment from way back, yeah. I had to push to git, then ftp the zip to my server, then go into my database update tool and write the update there. Now I just push to git and everything else is automated. )

  9. All of the 800 keyboard footprints are the same, (same 4 x screw positionings/distance), no matter whether you have one of the two plunger style 800 keyboards made by either Hi-tech or Stackpole, or the mylar one by Mitsumi. All three can be transplanted into any 800. So this modern replacement should fit IMHO. Incidentally, the mitsumi keyboard is a relatively easy fix, (with some patience and care), so long as the mylar is intact, (especially around the carbon finger contact area of the mylar where it contacts with the keyboard's pcb.) See FJC's vid on the subject:
  10. Did the PCB or schematics for the Spectre GCR ever get released?
  11. Might also be worth looking at one of the Q transistors (2N3904), as IIRC a faulty one in the video circuit can cause distortion like this. But definitely get the ram and or their sockets sorted as a first port of call.
  12. Today
  13. The subroutine could change the return address, and then the code could make sense. 😐
  14. So cool. A multi-directional horizontal shooter, with rescue-based missions. Love it! 🔥
  15. I have a K400, which doesn't want to work withy The400 at all.
  16. I’m glad I am not the only one wondering whatever happened to this game!
  17. Can I get 3 Screws at Home Depot?
  18. As it looks like the (almost) same issue with my Vader, I'd start with exchanging the CPU, which is the smaller IC labeled "6507".
  19. Too busy with the ground textures but, I like the idea of the extended blue castle (or maybe more the orange castle). I can see some type of power-up or achievement where your castle is extended. Not to the degree in your concept art, but maybe a bit more, which means it takes longer to kill you off (knock out all your bricks) but at the same time it becomes harder for you to defend all that extra real estate. Double-edged sword, I guess. Definitely need a spinner controller to handle that extra Tempest type shape change. There could also be the addition of an inner keep bonus or power-up (the little central square room in the center) that could add extra bricks that now must be knocked down if/when the outer wall is completely gone. Sort of like an extra mini life? I don't see any Breakout type bricks or sections to be knocked out in that image, either.
  20. When I was a kid, I got a Game Boy just because it was Nintendo, I didn't know the Lynx, or Game Gear even existed (Game Gear I found out about in 97, and the Lynx I found out about in 2000). But the Game Boy never really wow'd me back then, I mean, I played Mario Land, and Tetris on it, but other than those games, I didn't play much on it. Mainly because the screen on it was complete and utter garbage. Say what you want about the GG and Lynx screens, but they were lightyears better than the GB. But it seems everyone else thought different. As soon as I saw the Game Gear, I forgot all about the GB. And today, I find that the Lynx has more games I like than the GB lol
  21. Looks great! The only slightly tricky thing with programming is using the right version of certain libraries; my Github page has some of the required ones but with every new Arduino IDE version some standard libs seem to bloat and could cause the sketch not to fit. Happy to provide a more detailed list of lib versions if you run into that trouble. Awesome you built one.
  22. Maybe, I'm not sure about the Atari computers. Maybe the ST for the fact that it's got 2500 games for it, but most of the games are probably in PAL format, and can't be played on an NTSC ST computer.
  23. Maybe IE can use Ricky’s check cashing scam to finance the production.
  24. I'm interested in the game. However, if one of her upgraded equipments isn't a speaker hat I'm going to boycott it like some of the VCSers were going to do with Lunar Lander Beyond when it hadn't been announced for VCS yet. If there's a part that you need to wear a speaker hat to play annoying sythwave music to kill two guards to move on.... day one purchase here.
  25. Is there something up with the site? I have a cursor only on the screen. I attempted both the Web based log in and telnet with Sync TERM.
