  1. Past hour
  2. It helps that I'm practically the only one out there talking about any new arcades Or at least ones that have no license/name attached to them. The germ thing doesn't bug me either, but wearing a headset that some other sweaty dude just wore does slightly...and those little pointless face masks (those will not prevent transmission of something like pink eye) ruin any immersion you might feel otherwise. The main problem for me is that I can't use most VR without experiencing a migraine for hours afterwards, even if it was just for a few minutes. I don't have migraines in normal life, so it's enough to make me only use this stuff on rare occasion at tradeshows.
  3. I tried to play Bomb Squad lastnight using the original 2609 with those awful old controllers and I was miserable... I've been playing on my Inty II with Flashback controllers for 2 years now. I have basically ruined myself for the 2609. I find the controllers on the 2609 to be clunky and unresponsive. I went back to my bread and butter lastnight and played much better.... The flashback controllers are not only easier to use, but the longer cord gives you some leeway. You don't have to sit right on top of the console. ๐Ÿ‘
  4. Is that all you can come up with after two years? ๐Ÿ™‚
  5. I'm not particulary knowledgeable about Apple emulation, the filesystems, etc, but haven't run into unsolvable issues until now. I'd like to use the ingame save option in SSI's Superpower series of games. Emulator snapshots might be an option, but I'd like to use the actual game save options, so save games are transferable between emulators etc. I have done most testing with Germany 1985, the first in the series, and AppleWin as well as MAME(MESS) emulators. Once you start a game scenario, you can bring up the save screen with control +b. The game wants you to initialize a save disk, after which you can choose to save a game by name in a list. I've only managed to come that far with the .nib file from Asimov, haven't had any luck with the other versions. That HDV file looked promising, but it boots up a whole bunch of different SSI games. ๐Ÿคจ Anyway, with the nib file, I can enter a save name, and return to the actual game, but the saves are not permanent, bringing up the save screen again, nothing is there. Now, I've searched a bit, and found this RDOS page, which suggests these games might indeed be troublesome. There's blank disk available in the RDOSstuff archive which was tested with North Atlantic '86. It does indeed work with that game. But makes not difference for Germany 1985 for me.
  6. Yep, it's definitely possible it's been around for a while. I just happened to come across it recently (I don't even remember how) and I just found it so fascinating to flip through. For whatever reason, looking at the various advertisements is my favorite part. Seeing all the talk about CGA, VGA, Sound Blaster sound cards, the different game developers, etc., just brings me back.
  7. PS1 is great on the MiSTer. Can't vouch for Saturn or PS1 as I still haven't gotten around to troubleshooting my unit yet. It's been out of commission for like.. a year now. ๐Ÿ˜…
  8. I want to say this has been around for a while, but I am not sure about this particular resource. I have my magazines from my subscription around 86/87, and they are fun to look through to see how far we have come, what ideas never made it off the ground or just failed, and what is still the same. Plus, I have read articles from the period with directly contradict what some well-known people like to purport as history. All good stuff. Long live the Way Back Machine. PS: I would love to mirror these collections via Torrent, but it looks like there are only Torrent links for the individual magazines in these collections. Does anyone happen to know if the full collections of magazines have a single Torrent available?
  9. I think that's the first time I've ever heard someone call Klax tedious, but alright.
  10. I'm be pretty interested in seeing a video game that's playable if both audio and video are disabled. That'd have to be something unique, I think. I agree. I'm interested in the game and hope its awesome, but I do agree that it seems like they just slapped the Yars stuff in there to make it fit. Hopefully wrong, though, and it all fits nicely once released.
  11. Nice job with your Search Engine Optimization! I searched on this game to see more about it and yours was the first entry to come up! ๐Ÿ˜€ I'd probably give that game a try, except, and I'm not a germophone AT ALL, but I just can't get into wearing those public VR goggles.
  12. Definitely not that, the 2nd image 648B seems to be PLATO related Note: as well as saying 588B on the label this is one of a number of disks that says "SIGNS" on the label too
  13. @MrFish I think Starmaster is missing from the list of 2600 games.
  14. But another big question is: Will the PokeyMax V4 be available to buy anywhere? For most of us it will be impossible to assemble the board ourselves, even with a little SMD experience these components are far too difficult.
  15. If it did well enough, I would prefer the 2p version of the game, just because it's half the size. Most of us ops would prefer smaller games too - aside from costing less, it lets me pack in more games. It's nice to have a spectacle game or two, but not for the entire arcade. Unfortunately, most stuff being made right now is all about being spectacle games. Here's yet another that Raw Thrills recently rolled out Yeah, once they implement waves and leaderboards, I'll be paying more attention to repeat plays. That's always the best tell
  16. Got it. Prometheus was a 2012 film in the Alien series. Let's hope the new Alien movie this summer is a good one!
  17. The good news it that your wish is granted! By me, retro and 80's arcades are just as popular, if not more popular than the modern arcades / FECs. My favorite local arcade is all 80s games, with zero of those huge modern games. There are several of these retrocades. Here's my favorite that I go to all the time:
  18. /*Best Darth Vader Voice*/ Impressive. Most impressive. ... My issue once I get up to about bridge 40 is fuel. I've a tendency to hold the stick back early in the game ... and I have to consciously think NOT to, so I can make it to the next fuel depots before I run out. I'm also not good at suppressing my urge to shoot the fuel after getting 90% of it, which doesn't help later in the game where you largely need ALL of it. ... Congrats!
  19. @Beeblebrox Thanks for the confirmation and the tip video. I saw another from Andrian Black doing a similar trick. I have to report: I now have a working Mitsumi keyboard in my latest Atari 800 pick up!
  20. I find Klax to be a rather tedious puzzling experience and observe that it is the calling card of weak games libraries, when the best that can be said is complimenting ports since it came to everything and was basically the same everywhere.
  21. I'm probably in the minority and somewhat driven by nostalgia, But the more I see modern arcades, with their GIANT screens and Huge games taking up huge real estate, (Your Space Invaders Frenzy, Fast & Furious, and HALO Firestorm blahditty Blah), and (understandably) costing more for the arcade owner and costing more to play; The more I appreciate the way it used to be, with smaller cabs and screens where you'd walk up and enjoy your game, (Or maybe you and a friend for fighting, co-op, or alternating players type games)...I'm actually glad the Asteroids: Recharged is not a Giant, room-sized, experience... Maybe the pendulum will swing and it will get back to being able to enjoy your game in anonymity and not broadcast it to everyone who walks by, nor worry about how many tickets the machine is spitting out... PS: Nothing wrong with the Big games, per se, I just Also want the smaller cabs to come back in fashion.
  22. I had forgot where this thread went, so when I looked at the last post, I was confused. I was trying to remember the 2600 game Prometheus.
