Remote control cockroach. http://youtu.be/V2zNOP6RqRk

I remember my undergrad years as a neurobiology major when I connected the wing nerve bundle of roaches to an oscilloscope to study the electrical control properties of wing movement.

How about a TI controlled roach? It would make for a killer Faire demo :D

Interesting, that. Back in the day M.I.T. was working on a robotic approach to terrain handling and were stumped -- it seemed that no matter how smart they made the system it could still get confounded. Someone decided to go back to the basics and look at insects, which are just simple brains and ganglia. The result was a robotic bug named "Genghis" which had servos and sensors, and no computerized brain. It was a huge success and was able to navigate terrain and obstacles with ease.

After reading about this I named my car "Genghis." The damned thing ate a tree after I hydroplaned in a curve, limped home, and then took me to work. Talk about handling obstacles!

I also liked the ZX81 - still own one, mint, in its box!

I have one too and to say I like it would be too strong ;)

Some of the homebrew stuff coming out for the machine is amazing though-passable versions of H.E.R.O and beamrider no less.
