Yosikuma
So I am trying to transcribe sheet music into batari (via Visual bB) and ... well ... As someone who's used to things like old .MOD trackers, this isn't the easiest thing, is it? I guess my big problem is the fact that notes I need to hit, don't seem to exist on the keyboard shown in the music maker. Any way to circumvent this?? Apologies for deluging this board with questions.
ultima
You could always transpose the sheet music into a key that the atari can handle. From B4 thru B5 is the only key with no notes missing I use this guitar fretboard to assist in possible notes maybe others might find it useful Edited December 24, 2016 by ultima
+Gemintronic
The Atari 2600 doesn't hit normal notes. The keyboard in VisualbB is showing you what the actual hardware can do. Pretty challenging I always wished for something akin to Mario Maker instead of a straight up tracker. I think the best solution is for someone to come up with a MIDI to bB source convertor. RevEng
For best results, compose in the key of A3@218.3Hz. Gemintronic is right about the tool only showing the notes you can play on real hardware. If you're running into gaps, it's a sign you should transpose a part of the arrangement to where in-tune notes are more plentiful. If you aren't working in the key of A3, keeping the harmony part of your piece within an octave and using trial-and-error transposing can help avoid sour notes.
Yosikuma
It was kind of a pain, but I was able to make a decent rendition from sheet music and transposing! Still a bit limiting -- one of my notes had to shoot an octave below as it didn't exist in the range I had transposed up to -- but it sounds recognisable! Thanks! iesposta
If you have not noticed already, there are more notes shown in the Advanced than on the keyboard display, for all sound channels, but for pure tones of channel 4 and channel 12. Say there is a skipped note on the keyboard, and the left note is value 10 and then a skipped key and the next key shows 8 or 7. Sometime the value 9 sounds perfectly acceptable. RevEng has the best info above. If a note is really sour, try to use the buzzy channels, quieter, and use advanced to try more notes. And if that fails, consider dropping the note altogether, or using a high ding/ping sound. (I found the high ping sound by accidentally typing a wrong value in one of the bad notes in Zippy the Porcupine. Instead of dropping the note, the ping fit nicely and can be heard in Sprybug's game.) So I am trying to transcribe sheet music into batari (via Visual bB) and ... well ... iesposta
Ping sound right after the 1:00 minute mark.
