HSC14 Round 1: Super Pacman

Could anyone tell me how to get two remaining items? Am I doing something wrong?

 

you can just carry on walking around the screen minding your own business ;)

Of course I would never let that happen to me...

As TRBB will tell you, screenshots are optional. I usually try to post a shot of my best score.

Yeah, other than having a bit of competition to spur you into playing a bit more, that's the best thing about the HSC, it gives you a reason to play games you've never played before.

Not a high score, but I did make a video of my latest run...I think I managed a perfect 2-screen score. Got all the ghosts on both screens and got the max score on the center fruit for a grand total of 35,230. It's a shame I blew such a great start after the bonus round. Feel free to stop watching after the 2nd screen (unless you want to see the path I take in the bonus round.

Here are the first tables, 21 players already which is great and we're only in the first week so there might be a few more to embark on the journey this season :thumbsup:

 

Deteacher is making a blistering start to the season :-o thanks for posting the videos too and thanks to ballyalley for the atariproto's link which has lots of info including "According to Landon there may is a rare bug in the early prototype involoving the keys and doors (all the doors may not open), but I have yet to encounter this problem."

I think it a nice 'feature' and makes you have to pay attention :)

I getting a bit sick of the bugs in this game.

 

116340. 12 stage 3 lives remaining. Left with fruit enclosed in gates that were too far away from the power pills to be able to get there in time, game over!

I've had this a few times and it's very annoying if you're on a decent go. It would be nice to get this fixed cos it's a good game.

So, are we all playing a prototype version or is there another version that is not the prototype? *confused*

 

How about the other versions supposedly floating around, those without title screens or whatever, the ones we're not supposed to play? Do they also stem from the same game code and have the same door bug?

 

Edit: Ok, this page mentions three versions (though for the 5200, not 8-bit computers but the page says the code is designed to run on either), and that the latter two versions should not have the bug. It could be worth checking, even if the scores produced so far are with the door bug.

I think we are using the best A8 version (prototype - I think the podcast give some info?), glitches and all, but if anyone finds a better one let me know ;)

 

After lots of goes improved to 60,420 then 84,810 (1st man 53,100)

Can you not use the Super Pills along with the power pills to get them - I've not got that far... yet!

My first ever time playing in the HSC, and I feel every bit my age! I'm not sure I'd ever really played this on my 8-bit originally, so it was nice to play something 'new'.

 

First attempt was a pitiful 8480!

 

Had a couple more goes and got:

 

23200 on the first man challenge

Ended that game with 43000

Might not get to play much more as I'm away next week, but if I do I'll post again.

I found that the rom i got from atarionline.pl played without the 'gates not dissappearing' bug on my machine. I think the xex i was playing was from the Fandal website

:thumbsup: Stick to the XEX for this round and if you can checkout the ROM a bit more and confirm it is better/has no issues we can ask on the forum to see if someone will take a look at updating the XEX
