First lame attempt at Gas Hog (without reading the manual): 2,000

Great game!!

I didn't realize you lose points when you shoot the point values floating by.

Question: are you supposed to be able to shoot upwards at the flying saucers? I was only able to shoot horizontally :?

CONCERNS ON MOON PATROL

According to the manual (http://atariage.com/manual_html_page.php?SoftwareLabelID=311), the difficulty switches have the following effects:

Left A/Expert - Background music turned OFF (Moon Patrol Theme)

Left B/Novice - Background music turned ON (For this HSC contest, remember that Left Difficulty A or B is ALLOWED)

Right A/Expert - 2 moving speeds (Right difficulty switch MUST be set before starting a new game)

Right B/Novice - 3 moving speeds

But on my Stella emulator (version 4.7.2), Difficulty Switches have the OPPOSITE effect on this game. So PLEASE:

1) Pay CLOSE attention in the short Moon Patrol video which I attached here.

2) Original Atari Console users: Check the Difficulty Switches and see if they have the same effect as occurred on Stella Emulator.

3) Coleco Gemini Console users: Remember the position of Difficulty Switches - A is NOVICE, and B is EXPERT

moon patrol.wmv

Just to be honest, to play this game under 3 moving speeds (3 GEARS) for this HSC contest, I will have to set Right Difficulty Switch to A POSITION on Stella.

I tried the difficulty switches both ways & it seems I have 3 speeds either way :?

With 2 speeds, you can move forward but the terrain doesn't move any faster. You can test the speeds by how many seconds go by on the clock before the first obstacle reaches the left side of the screen

I see!

ok so the ruling is -- YES the manual got it backwards, so please use Right Difficulty A. Any scores already submitted using Difficulty B will still count.

As oyamafamily pointed out some consoles have the Difficulties reversed (Coleco Gemini, Atari 7800, Sears Video Arcade for example), so as always please play accordingly if you use one of these consoles/modules.

The HSC has never played Moon Patrol using Right Difficulty A, so there is no record to beat. Whoever sets the record gets (+2) bounus, and ROLL the score for (+3).
