+Lathe26
VRGE (Vancouver Retro Gaming Expo) is occurring on May 27th, 2017. I am debating on going. However, that is also the weekend of my wife's birthday so it is iffy on whether I will attend. http://www.vancouvergamingexpo.com
+the1hatman
Wow! Portland, Seattle and Vancouver... the northwest seems to get a lot of retro gaming action. Wish something like this would wind its way farther east. I know there was one in the Carolinas recently but you'd think there would be something farther north as well. Maybe I've just not heard about them?
+Lathe26
There are other retro gaming events in the Pacific Northwest as well: Cowlitz Games for Kids (http://www.cowlitzgamers.com/) In Jan/Feb, there is typically a 1 day event where people trade video game in Portland, OR. I'm blanking on the name of it at the moment.
Jinks
Any retro gaming events somewhere central like in North Dakota?
+the1hatman
That's awesome. I wonder what seemingly random set of variables has made the Pacific Northwest the Mecca of retro gaming? Regardless, I envy that area.

+fdr4prez
From Wikipedia (if you include Alaska and Hawaii): The geographic center of the United States is a point approximately 20 mi (32 km) north of Belle Fourche, South Dakota
ComputerSpaceFan
I'll be at VRGE this year. I did a video of last year's and may I say it is waaaaaaaaay improved since the olden days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3xWqCluqd8

Could drive there in a day.
GenetixJ
That's awesome. I wonder what seemingly random set of variables has made the Pacific Northwest the Mecca of retro gaming? Regardless, I envy that area. I wonder if it had to do with the Microsoft crew and offshoots of the companies that made their home there in the 80s? The employees would stay in the area, they would have kids, and probably all were interested in atari/intellivision etc.

ComputerSpaceFan
You know, now that you guys mention it, we were weirdly lucky up here in Vancouver back in the golden era of arcades as well. I commonly ran into machines back in the 80's that today are considered rare. I mean, Major Havoc, Quantum, Environmental Discs of Tron, Williams Blaster in the Duramold cab ..... I saw these regularly in our arcades. Not to mention that slightly controversial arcade in Gastown.
GenetixJ
I found out I have free time during PRGE this year. If I can find a good air ticket and hotel I'll be there.

And as another bit of proof, Ed Fries (of XBox and Halo 2600 fame) just discovered an Easter Egg in the 1977 Atari Starship arcade machine which "he'd ordered from a dealer in Vancouver, British Columbia" https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/03/the-arcade-worlds-first-easter-egg-discovered-after-fraught-journey/

Omega-TI
And if you live around the Vancouver, area and want something else to do while you wait that extra month, consider the 2017 TI-99/4A Fest West. For locals it'll be easy to get to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHW-kwH6mvY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXOEgkWMPm8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_GqhJT24jQ
