Loderunner on Atari 2600?

Hello Everyone!

 

With all the homebrews that have come out in the past few years, I can't help but notice the classic computer game Loderunner has not been ported to any Atari consoles (not counting the Atari 8-bit version). I would like to see someone remake Loderunner for Atari 2600/7800. Would the Atari 2600 be able to handle it?

Who knows... with todays programming techniques and extra hardware like what's in the Harmony cart, one could probably pull off a decent version. If so, I'd be all about a VCS Loderunner.

You can run around, use the ropes and ladders, fall to lower levels, collect the gold bricks, dig holes (hold fire then move joystick left or right to pick which side), and die if the enemy touches you.

That looks pretty good, but it could be better.

I had Lode Runner on my Atari XE which is an 8-bit, NTSC, U.S. console. I think that means it could likely be ported to the VCS (2600) with a little savvy.

I think development on Leprechaun has come to a halt. 

 

It's a great proof of concept that a game "like" Lode Runner is possible within the confines of the original hardware as per your suggestion.

@Dionoid has a version under development called Fool's Gold. He posted some test builds back in February to get feedback on screen size, don't know if he's posted any others.
