So has this game rom ever been released that will work with a ntsc u1mb side2 combo?

Also any lucasfilm game other than bblazer.

Space harrier?

What are the best games?

So much garbage made. I think deleting all pinballs and text adventures and boulderdash games is a start. also anything not in english. Delete pal unplayable versions. Also every pac man is the worst ever. I just need to make a list and delete games from my cf card.

Have played hundreds in the last 4 days.

Getting multi cart syndrome where too much is less.

Since I do not own a NTSC machine, I (almost) never test for NTSC compatibility...

Latest fileversion of Yie Ar Kung Fu can be found here: http://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=3447

There also exists a ROM file of this game, but afaik most (all?) emulators do not support it. Guess both are still PAL only.

Lucasfilm games: Ballblazer, Rescue on Fractalus, Koronis Rift, The Eidolon; all of them available at Fandal's database. All of them also available as ROM versions (two ROMs officially by Atari, the other two ROMS unofficially by Wrathchild here at AA).

Think you do not count the Starwars games by Parker Bros. and Domark ? (Starwars arcade game, The Empire strikes back - which was a hack, afaik ? The Return of the Jedi and Starwars by Domark/Zeppelin Games)

Space Harrier is available as a 1MB (8MBit) atarimax compatible ROM version and as a 1-level (130XE) bootdisk version. Think I also have some demos of the game and/or intermissions in my collection, but they are not playable, so not of interest to you.

Other great games are e.g. Atari Blast (available as 1MB ROM version that works on 64k machines or as a disk version that requires 1088k RAM), Laura (disk version req. 128k, ROM version only 64k RAM), Bomb Jack/Bomb Jake (320k RAM disk version or 64k rAM ROM version), Flowers Mania, Bosconian, Time Pilot and hundreds of other games. Many games have been ported from the C64, Spectrum, BBC, etc. to the A8, e.g. several ISO-3D or Pseudo-3D games - so if you like that genre give them a look.

trbb is right, that its best to visit atarimania and look at their 100 best A8 games by rating and/or take a look at the results of the last 15 or so years of KAZ compos at atarionline.pl. On the other hand, its not always easy to match everyone's taste, I personally do like some A8 games that are considered crap by others and errm, I do not like (and never play) various A8 games that are considered to be great by others...

Does the c64 have more ntsc games or is it more pal focused as well?

It depends what you're looking for; the cracked versions of games archived at Gamebase 64 or the C64 Scene Database are quite often fixed to work PAL/NTSC. The first ports of call for older titles are jewel cracking groups like Hokuto Force or Nostalgia since they also repair bugged code, add trainers, compact everything to the hilt and including on-disk documentation.

Just tried the version of Yie Are on the latest beta of Altirra (3.1) and it worked???

Am I going mad?

I thought it didn't work because it had a display list issue so the graphics would corrupt unless you played it on a special version of Atari800 hacked to make it work?

Its most likely me but I could have sworn it didn't work???

Losing plot / senior moment?

Also every pac man is the worst ever.

So, I can't seem to find the thread, but there is a hacked/enhanced version of Pac-Man and Ms Pac-Man; "arcade versions" already on these forums.

If re-posting them here isn't cool, apologies in advanced (mods, obviously feel free to remove). Some one please give credit to who made these; I cannot remember the individual(s). Amazing and well needed updates! Maybe we should make and enhanced/updated/converted list/thread?

As for the title ... I'd love to find a version of Yie Ar that works as well (NTSC). I've several versions of this game and have tried on multiple stock and upgraded NTSC Ataris, but cannot seem to make it run. Also tried Atari800 emulator (Linux) with no luck.

----------------

found the Ms. Pac-Man (Thank You Mr. Fish!!!)

If anyone could link the original thread for "Arcade Pac-Man" ?

Time pilot atari blast boscinian are not on my list. Must be hidden in the forum.

Bomb jack crashes.

Atari Blast http://www.mushca.com/f/atari/index.php?dl=427|ATARRAM_

Bosconian http://www.mushca.com/f/atari/index.php?dl=439

Time Pilot http://www.mushca.com/f/atari/index.php?dl=435

It you want the single games they are on the same site..The numbers at the end of the links are the disk number you want..

Paul.

As for Pac Mans being poor, yes indeed, same as the official ports of Space Invaders and Galaxian, there are much better 3rd party ports or versions like Galactic Chase etc...

Yeah I tried all of fandals. Only bblazer from lucasfilm works. All others crashes.

Bosconian is a good idea.

Should be no problem to find copies of Lucasfilm games that work well on NTSC systems, since Lucasfilm was US based. (Guess Fandal used the european/PAL versions from Activision, since he is living in a PAL country.) Try e.g. USA versions from atarimania:

http://www.atarimania.com/list_games_atari-400-800-xl-xe-lucasfilm-games_developer_134_8_G.html

or the cracked ATR versions from the software preservation initiative here at AA:

http://atariage.com/forums/topic/234684-atari-8-bit-software-preservation-initiative/?hl=%20preservation

Besides, its not always a good idea to download gazillions of A8 games in one big ZIP package and then complain that hundreds (or thousands) of them are crap. Maybe you should look at some screenshots first (e.g. atarimania, Fandal, Homesoft, etc.) to get a first impression, watch some youtube videos to take a look at the gameplay and read some reviews (online and printed) and then download only selected stuff. This "research" is more work, but in the end you do not have to delete hundreds of crap/redundant games from your flash media. Here are a few examples:

online ratings:

magazines:

Excel: http://excel-retro-mag.co.uk/?v=79cba1185463

PAM: https://proc-atari.de/en/proc-atari-magazine

and dozens of other retro magazines!

Last not least there is also the best game pack (two different versions!) here at AA:

Try these. I've put all of the Lucasfilm games in the file and all in multiple formats. They should work on a NTSC machine. You should be able to find something in here that will work for you.

Ok thanks!

I will try this this weekend!

Lots of neat games are found just by sorting thru thousands of games.

Just want the bigger and better games to work.

Wish there was a 64kb and higher only lot to download. If I knew how to use a computer better would be easy by just a sort command or something even in windows.

Well great you got it to work!

Thanks for checking this out.

I did lots of reading on the kung fu game and thought someone modded it to work.

We are all getting old. Just go with it.

Every day can learn something new again.

You'll never know it tomorrow.

One thing that I did when I first got my UNO Cart was to install the Atari 800 - Best Game Pack on my PC and played through those games in order to give myself a good heads-up to quite a few hidden gems that I was previously unfamiliar with. Also, don't get stuck on the idea that it's just the "bigger" games that are the most worthwhile; some of the most fun titles to be found are in the 16k and under category.

I couldn't get the game to fully work on Altirra 3.0. It booted up and ran all the way up to the "next opponent" screen but then went black. Is there some alternative settings that I should be using to get this to run?

Yes, set it to PAL, its a European written game set for PAL, timings could affect DLI's etc etc so play it in PAL

I also in the firmware page make sure that the XL rom is version 2 (you'll see the names as long as you scanned for roms in the setup page.)

A full set of OS and Device roms with pics to tell what is what is here

Thanks, that did the trick. :) I probably should have been able to figure it out for myself but my old brain sometimes doesn't seem as sharp as it used to be.

I have this *other* version of seemingly the same game but it's called "Yie ANOTHER Kung Fu". It doesn't seem to run as well, though; graphic glitches on the game screen. What is this version? A WIP release?

It's the final version of Yie Ar. It requires a special version of Atari++ emulator to run properly, because of the special Carina cart type. This special version of Atari++ can also run the Carina cart version Bomb Jack.

Thanks. I don't recall where I got the file but I don't seem to also have the Carina cart version of "Bomb Jack". Can anyone point me in the right direction? Not that I really need it but the obsessive completest in me would like to tuck a copy away in my A8 folder.

These also run on real Ataris', but you need at least 320K (256K xmem). I think the Game PANG is the same too. At least It won't load on my 256K XL. I ran it on an emulator to do the review for Excel issue 4.

Here's the stuff I'm talking about.

Just the run the emulator and Yie Ar will automatically start.

If you want to run bomb jack, rename it to kung_cart.bin and start the emulator and it will run.

These are images of the real carina cart versions of these two games that will run on 64K machines in real hardware, which were sold by GR8 games.

The problem is that the code is run out right to the end when it does not need to be.... it becomes a chore to re organize it... so dirty hacks and patches are what you end up with... it makes it run... but the timing and speed end up off... or even ends up being slowed down when the NTSC machine is faster..... the result of deferred over runs and crossed boundaries ...
