Cynicaster
UN Squadron - 79,530 I find this one kind of frustrating. I wish your plane moved slowly at the start of the game, with "speed up" powerups collected to allow you to gradually speed up to your own liking, like in R-Type and Gradius for example. I find that the controls are very touchy because your plane moves so quickly, so I'm constantly bumping into things that I might not otherwise. The fairly large hitbox on your plane doesn't help the situation. Galaga88 - 116,910 It's score #3 in the photo; the higher ones were done outside this competition. To be honest, I'm one of the rare classic arcade fans who doesn't even care much for Galaga (at all) but I really enjoy this game. When owners of classic IP's try to dig up one of their well-loved titles and make a new game with updated graphics and a few new features, I find it usually rings a bit hollow. Not in this case, though. This game definitely has a streak of Galaga personality but it really feels like its own game for the most part.
AtariWarlord
Galaga '88 26,030. I suppose I had to post a score sometime. I find myself very risk-adverse playing this game compared to the original -- for example, shooting more static aliens rather than waiting for them to attack. AtariWarlord
UN Squadron 11,930. I didn't want to post a score until I at least got past the tank but at this rate I don't think that's going to happen. Galaga '88 30,750. Anyone know what the asteroid-type things that start on the fourth level are all about? I assume you shoot them, or do you? It still won't necessarily mean we'll use them to win, but at the very least save some of us complete embarrassment.
Leto27
Leto, dude, can you give us any pointers, tricks of the trade, general life advice, Cliff's Notes or something on how to succeed even nominally at this game? It still won't necessarily mean we'll use them to win, but at the very least save some of us complete embarrassment. In Galaga 88 I always choose to start with the dual ship and when the first ship with the attraction beam approach I get into the beam, so after I recover the dual ship it becomes a large ship with 3 beam arrays, this helps a lot in the bonus stages. Now for U.N. squadron, there 3 options of pilots: Shin has more energy but lesser effective power, Mick has the most powerful shot but has less energy than the others, Gregg is in the middle but has a two direction shot that becomes very handy in the 3rd and 4th stages. Eliminate as many enemies as you can, because you will need the money that you get from them. If you get hit to avoid a second hit in the first seconds because you will die even if you have full energy. The first enemy is pretty easy, so always avoid to buy anything in the first stage. for the second enemy, I recommend the large homing missile. Always try to buy the most expensive weapon and if you can extra energy

AtariWarlord
Thanks for the help Leto. In Galaga '88 I just need to learn how to not let my extra ship blow up before I hit the bonus stage (it becomes a really big target).
AtariWarlord
UN Squadron 43,130. Wow -- that made a huge difference. Thanks! My previous problem was I was trying too hard to blow the tank up with my super-weapon and in the process I took a lot of hits because I was positioned right where the tank would usually fire its missiles.
