Whatever happened to Matthew Lesko? I never actually understood what the product or service was that was "free", I just remember that it didn't cost anything and I was supposed to be very excited about that. as a kid, he always reminded me of the Riddler

Ya ever get an envelope in the mail and right there it says, FREE GIFT INSIDE?  And you think,  What could it be?  Swing for the fences, is it a Dodge Viper or a Maserati Merak (SS of course)?  Nope...An Evercade game?  Not in an envelope,  But is it something cool like a gift card that's worth something?  Could be, happened to me the other day,  but that's rare...Look,  it's probably a magnet for your fridge or a cloth to clean your glasses.   Course you could just open it up!  Nawww I'll wait til tomorrow...

    • I can do that when I get home.  I think it's the file I got off of Fandal's site or possibly AtariMainia.  If I had to guess it's the BASIC version since I *think* this game needs Rev A and I'm using whatever comes with the Incognito XL/XE profile (which I assume is C).  You said that can be changed with UFLASH?  Is that in the instructions somewhere?  Rev A would be far more useful as some games require it but no game I know of requires Rev C (maybe some utility stuff I don't use).
    • Since you have Incognito, a fast way to duplicate ATRs is to mount the disk image using the Incognito Loader on one drive, and your real floppy on another drive number, and run a sector copier to duplicate the ATR on the actual floppy. The FAT-hosted ATRs read rather fast and you do away with the need for a second SIO device in the chain. I was proposing to implement a built-in means of doing Floppy->ATR and vice versa in the SIDE3 loader (there isn't room on the Incognito, unfortunately).

    • Does the Incognito loader screen display for PAL height or NTSC height?  I ask because so far it's the only thing that has displayed that high on my monitor.  Maybe @flashjazzcat can answer that?  I don't mind the top few lines of the Incongnito loader being cut off as it's just eye candy if it means I I can completely fill my screen top to bottom.
    • Nothing special, no. If you've gotten as far as the 'Gates are closed' message (I now realise), you've done everything right, BASIC is enabled, and 'GO' has been launched. So perhaps there is some BASIC version dependency I haven't encountered yet. Can you post the exact version of the game you're using, so I can attempt to replicate the exact issue you're seeing?
    • Welcome to AtariAge.   Sorry to hear that you are suffering with 800XL RAM failure.   The voltage indicated is fine. What is the voltage on load measured across the 7 pin DIN connector?   Diagnostic devices are not necessary at this point in time due to the fact that the 800XL is showing the RAM test, indicating that everything else is probably working fine.   If you have some isopropyl alcohol, one trick to finding bad RAM is to place a drop on each chip with the power off, then turn the machine on. The faulty DRAM chips can invariably get hotter which is indicated by faster evaporation of the liquid.   This is not foolproof however and as most members have advised, it's best to change them all for either 4164 or 41256 or compatible DRAM manufactured by an alternative brand!   I am a proponent of 41256 DRAM due to the easy upgrade path to a Rambo XL which expands the memory with an extra 192KB, but that can be done much later or not at all.   If you are wondering how 41256 DRAM can also work as standard 64K memory, DRAM pin 1 (ADD8) is held high and thus disabled via the R32 3K resistor.   This also makes the Rambo XL easier to wire if you decide to, by desoldering said resistor and adding the Rambo XL decode circuit board connection to ADD8.   There are multiple discussions of this topic here on AtariAge.

    • It's 8 stops away apparently, so I'm fairly confident I will get it today.  I'm glad I cancelled my original order and reordered again.
    • I never knew about the [BASIC] keyword before.  That's really handy since many other programs won't load if BASIC is enabled.  But I had enabled BASIC when I tried it (otherwise you don't get the message about the gates).  After I got that message the screen went black almost immediately, so I never saw an error code.  Maybe I still wasn't booting it correctly though. it's been a long time since I've tried this.  I hit tab to mount the two images to D1 and D2, what do I do next to load them?  Do I just hit enter like any other file or do I have to do something special?
