Adrian M
Just curious since my STELLA emulator doesn't seem to reproduce speech. Is it robotic like a Speak and Spell or is it full of static like NES or SMS voice samples?
Tempest
Well it's really hard to describe, but it sounds like a human voice played really fast. It's not robotic at all since if I'm not mistaken it's Steve Wotia's actual voice. Of course after being compessed and degraded to fit into the little space they had left to play with it really doesn't sound like much. It's actually just one word "Quadrun!" looped three times. Adrian M
I kinda figured that. Still impressive though, considering how notoriously difficult the 2600 is to program.

mvigor
The Scientific approach to answering this question would be to get a copy and play it on a real VCS.
NE146
Did you try it on Z26 or PCAE? I remember Stella always having bad sound...

The only problem with this methodology is the rarity and price of said cart.
Adrian M
Did you try it on Z26 or PCAE? I remember Stella always having bad sound... No I have not. I use Stella exclusively and there are problems and discrepancies sound-wise with many games. I'll try it out on Z26 when I get a chance to download it. Think of the money it would SAVE in the long run.

Think of the money it would SAVE in the long run. The Cuttle Carts were sold out when I first began to frequent the boards. Also, there's something to be said about having the genuine cart in your possession. Sounds foolish, but then again, I'm a collector and collectors are prone to doing foolish things. NE146
How realistic is Quadrun's voice? It sounds like this (say it fast in a male-ish voice and slur a bit): "kwathun kwathun" sample it down to 8 bit mono and there you go
