In keeping with the alternating classic/modern series, this week, we look at Pokémon. Reviled by some, loved by others, it sells like crazy to this day.

I'm just gonna focus this on the standard RPGs, and none of the spinoffs, like Pokémon Snap (which is great, btw) or Pokémon Dash (which isn't).

Couldn't choose since my favorite is Pokemon Snap. That is not only a good game, but a cool concept that would be fun if it wasn't a Pokemon title.

Pokemon Pinball for the Gameboy Color was good too, but Snap takes it for me.

Oh, I'm 35, and I have a cat named Pikachu (Pika for short). ;)

Just for everyone's information, I only included the titles I did because they are considered the core titles. If I expanded it, where do you draw the line? I know a lot of people like XD, but it isn't a proper Pokemon title, but part of the "Stadium"/"Colliseum" subseries. Pokemon Ranger is arguably closer, but I didn't count that, either.

And I'll chime in and say that if you like RPGs and you've never played a Pokemon game, you're missing out. I voted Red/Blue/Yellow, btw, because of Yellow and the Pikachu that follows you around. Something I'm surprised they haven't repeated.

I wonder how many people who picked that they didnt like the games also never played them... I think that number is a little off since it should only be for people who

have played the game to completion. (beating the elite 4 and champion at minimal)

I think as long as they are being honest and they gave the game a try, saying they don't like it without finishing it is perfectly fine.

Pokemon is a very specific type of game and you can tell pretty quickly if you're going to like it or not. What I have found is that while a lot of people haven't tried it, most that do end up liking it. I know that I tried it on a whim (on an emulator, actually) and was amazed how quickly I got sucked into the game. I had to go out and buy one almost immediately. I've gotten every one of the core games (excepting Emerald) since then. I even have the Japanese imports of Red, Silver and Crystal and I also have Pokémon Rojas and Pokémon Azul (Red and Blue in Spanish).

I voted that I never played any of them although I did play Fire red for maybe a half hour once at a friends house but I feel that it wasn't really enough time to judge it. I seem to remember it being a lot like the old NES and SNES style RPG's. I could probably get into something like that but the problem is there are so many RPG's out there and so little time. It's hard to buy a Pokemon game over Final Fantasy or similar games, Pokemon has always seemed like a kids game to me :)

When I was living in GB I once went Pokemon crazy. Bought the Green, Red games from Chinatown, London, purchased the comics from import comic shop, all this before Pokemon was even released in the UK. Later I purchased Yellow, Red, Silver, Pinball UK versions and The Trading Card game for Game Boy (Meanwhile I sold the Green, Red Japanese versions, and Trading Card game). Also got Hey You Pikachu, Stadium, and Snap for N64. Although Stadium is totally bad, I'm still after a cheap Stadium 2. Also have Pokemon Trading Card game Tempest Gift Box, and PokeROM 'Gotta Learn them all' the complete Collection for PC.

Got huge amounts of Plush/Beanies Pokemons, Trading cards still sealed in their boxes, Pikachu knapsack, Game Boy hold-alls/carry cases, books, diaries, pencils, pens, folders, puzzles, plastic toys, electric toys, etc....you name it, I purchased it.

Played the Game Boy games and all the sudden they felt like they are totally rubbish, haven't touched them since.
