topaz
Hello my fellow Atari Lovers, I have a 1400XL for sale. This particular unit originally belonged to the XL Project sound engineer and came from the private collection of Mr. Christopher Strong. (I traded one of the LAST 10 COMPLETE 1090XL expansion units for it.) I currently have an open ended offer for this unit from the Webmaster of a French Atari site of $600. Any American takers, before I ship her overseas???? PS, I also have a NEW as in NEW in the Box Falcon030 4M version without HDD. and a New condition 4160STE..???? What say thow..??? Albert
PS, I also have a NEW as in NEW in the Box Falcon030 4M version without HDD. and a New condition 4160STE..???? I'm not terribly familiar with the 4160STE, and there doesn't seem to be much on the web about them. Can you give me some more details? Also, can you actually put a hard drive in the Falcon030? Or do you have to use an external drive? And, of course, how much are you looking to get for these? ..Al
topaz
The 4160STe is just the 1040STe with 4M of factory installed RAM and the "4160 STe" label on the top. In most cases the label on the bottom still says 1040STe because they just pulled 1040STes off the assembly line, installed additional memory and put the different case tops on them. By the way this one has TOS 1.62 installed.
topaz
Oh, Sorry forgot to answer the other half of your question, Yes indeed, the Falcon is built to accept industry standard 2.5" IDE notebook hard drives. I recently added a 4GB (Yes I said 4 GIGABYTE) 2.5: IDE Notebook hard drive (Using HD Driver v8.0) and a 68082 Math co-processor to another Falcon. Albert
Sorry forgot to answer the other half of your question, Yes indeed, the Falcon is built to accept industry standard 2.5" IDE notebook hard drives. Excellent, I believe I have two unused 2.5" IDE drives floating around, I think they're both 10GB drives. I don't know if that's too large, but even if I could only use a portion of the space it'd be worth it. So, how much do you want for these beasts? You can email me privately if you'd like at albert@atariage.com. ..Al
Callipygous
Just when I tell Frank(see other thread) how impossible a 1450XLD is to find, a 1400XL shows up. What are the odds? Hmm $600, give me a day to think about it. I mean we can't let the French have it can we?
Curt Vendel
Just when I tell Frank(see other thread) how impossible a 1450XLD is to find, a 1400XL shows up. What are the odds? Hmm $600, give me a day to think about it. I mean we can't let the French have it can we? I can vouch for the 1400XL, Chris Strong is a very good friend of mine and I sold him that spare 1400XL about 4 years ago. If I recall, its actually a 1450 motherboard inside of the 1400XL case, it has a special expansion header on the motherboard that would accept a disk drive daughterboard to run 2 PBI disk drives, there should also be a power connector on the motherboard to plug and power the disk drives with. The quick way to see which motherboard is inside of a 1400XL is to look at the power connector. The connector is a 1400XL if it only has 7 holes on it, if it has 8, then its a 1450XL motherboard inside. If you're handy with an eprom programmer, you can get 8bit eprom boards from B&C and Best. Come to my website and go into the Atari Computers Section and under Atari 8bit - XL Series you'll see an icon for the Atari 1400XL, click on it and in that section are ROM images for the Atari 1400XL Telecommunicator Program and several other 1400XL specific program ROM's, plus lots of good info, history and data too :-) Curt
topaz
Now that you mention it think I remember him mentioning that he got the unit from you. At the time of the Trade I really needed to sell the 1400XL for some BADLY needed cash but was able to hold out for several months. Unfortunately things have caught up with me again and this time I will have to seriously pursue selling it. Fortunately the wife is being reasonable and letting me hold out for a fair price. For those of you that don't know, when you hold down START and OPTION when turning on a 1400XL the Self test uses the built in Speech Synthesizer and talks....
