Achtung: Diese Konkurrenz hat beendet. Keine weiteren Kerben werden angenommen.

Springen.

Scoring Points in Bobby is Going Home

  • You start with 3000 points
  • Clearing a scene - 1000 points
  • Bobby fails and starts again - 1000 points for encouragement (!!?)
  • You lose 10 points per second, so you'd better hurry!

Hints and Tips

As always, you really should read the manual. If you don't have the manual, AtariAge has a scanned copy available online for your viewing pleasure! Unfortunately, the manual doesn't provide any specific hints, and isn't terribly useful.
Regarding the drawbridge that opens and closes, if you jump when the bridge is one tick from being completely open, you'll land in the middle just as it closes, which will give you a split second to jump again to safety. Practice the timing and you'll be clearing the bridge every time.

While it may look like the flying enemies paths are random, they definitely follow a set pattern. Learn their movement and you can literally play this game forever.

Not only does the score roll over at 100,000... if it hits zero, the game ends automatically. Unfortunately, I just found this out. :x

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but there is no ending after finishing level 32. The same 32 levels are repeated again starting at level 33.
(1)Timing the bridge is tricky.Right before the bridge is fully open, jump! You should land at the middle of the bridge while it is closed. Then jump again and you should make it across.

(2)All of the obstacles follow a pattern. The pattern is very noticable after a few rounds of play.

But the manual says, "This game is going on by 256 scenes" and "after the lovely song 'HOME, SWEET HOME' for him, little Bobby starts his journey again."

Oops, had sound turned off! ><

Don't worry, Larcen...you're not missing much. ;) Being a music teacher, it's real hard to listen to the out of tune music. I have to play it with the sound off. :-o

First submission: 15,170. Here's my big tip o' the week:

Regarding the drawbridge that opens and closes, if you jump when the bridge is one tick from being completely open, you'll land in the middle just as it closes, which will give you a split second to jump again to safety. Practice the timing and you'll be clearing the bridge every time. :)

Now sing along:

What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!

In His arms He’ll take and shield you; you will find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear

May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer.

Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer

Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.

Not so sure I even wanna try for a higher score - I kinda get the feeling I've already experienced everything this game has to offer.

Sorry the picture came out so crappy - I guess the camera thinks the colors are as garish as I do. I particularly enjoyed the screen with green enemies on a green background (as immortalized, I just noticed, in toymailman's post above.) In fact, the eagle-eyed among you will be able to note the barely perceptible presence of an enemy on the far right of the screen. That's no illusion; they really are almost impossible to see!

My tip: Since you get so much time in the air with every jump, why not do a little jiggy dance while you're up there? Wheeeee!

Now sing along...

Don't forget:

Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam,

Be it ever so humble there's no place like home!

A charm from the skies seems to hallow us there,

Which, seek through the world, is ne'er met with elsewhere:

Home! Home! sweet, sweet Home

There's no place like Home!

There's no place like Home!

I gaze on the moon as I tread the drear wild

And feel that my mother now thinks of her child

As she looks on the moon from our own cottage door

Through the woodbine whose fragrance shall cheer me no more.

Home! Home! sweet, sweet Home...

An exile from home splendor dazzles in vain

Oh, give me my low, thatched cottage again,

The birds singing gaily that come at my call,

Give me them with that peace of mind, dearer than all.

Home! Home! sweet, sweet Home...

How sweet 'tis to sit neath a fond father's smile,

And the cares of a mother to soothe and beguile.

Let others delight 'mid new pleasures to roam,

But give me, oh give me the pleasures of home.

Home! Home! sweet, sweet Home...

To thee I'll return overburdened with care,

The hearts dearest solace will smile on me there

No more from that cottage again will I roam,

Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home.

Home! Home! sweet, sweet Home...

And of course:

Ho-ho-ho ho ho! Ho-ho-ho ho ho!

Oh, that's the Woody Woodpecker song

Ho-ho-ho ho ho! Ho-ho-ho ho ho!

Yeah, he's a-peckin' it all day long

He pecks a few holes in a tree to see

If a redwood's really red

And it's nothing to him, on the tiniest whim

To peck a few holes in your head

Ho-ho-ho ho ho! Ho-ho-ho ho ho!

Oh, that's the Woody Woodpecker's tune

Ho-ho-ho ho ho! Ho-ho-ho ho ho!

Makes the other woodpeckers swoon

Though it doesn't make sense to the dull and the dense

And the lady woodpeckers long for

Ho-ho-ho ho ho! Ho-ho-ho ho ho!

That's the Woody Woodpecker song

Ho-ho-ho ho ho! Ho-ho-ho ho ho!

Woody Woodpecker's serenade

Ho-ho-ho ho ho! Ho-ho-ho ho ho!

On the woodpecker hit parade

Though he can't sing a note, there's a frog in his throat

All his top notes come out blurred

He's the ladies' first choice, with a laugh in his voice

He gives all his rivals the bird

Ho-ho-ho ho ho! Ho-ho-ho ho ho!

He'll be settlin' down some day

Ho-ho-ho ho ho! Ho-ho-ho ho ho!

He'll be hearin' the preacher say

For the rest of your life you'll be Woody and wife

And the choir will sing along with

Ho-ho-ho ho ho! Ho-ho-ho ho ho!

The Woody Woodpecker song

(Admittedly, they only use the "ho-ho-ho ho ho" part...) ;)

This brings up a question, oh obtainer of pretty-much every bit of info regarding 2600 games: :D

Is there a master list of all the (known) songs used in 2600 games someplace?

I'm not sure if that's the best tip (since it works every time) or the worst tip (since it allows you keep playing the game). ;)

After just a couple of games, I can't stand it anymore... and I'm listening to iTunes, with the 2600's audio turned off!

I was actually relieved when I died. I kept getting Bobby home and thinking, "Maybe this time I'll finally make a mistake and die."

Everything about this game is horrible. The controls, graphics, sound, scoring (c'mon... losing points for staying alive??), everything.

It's like Bounty Bob (from Miner 2049er) and Papa Smurf somehow procreated, and this is the result.

Next week, I hope Bobby just stays home. :P

Dang it, Nathan, you beat my score...now I have to PLAY it again. Thanks a pant load. ;)

Your last post really made me laugh...this game is pretty rough around the edges. I don't claim to be any kind of super game maker, or anything, so I hope I don't offend anyone, but while the premise of the game is good, it could definitely have benefitted from more time in development. Like I said earlier, there's nothing that irks me more than when the Atari music is out of tune. Isn't there some issue with the Atari's inability to play a tuned scale, or something? You got the right idea, Nathan :music:

Anyway, getting back to you Nathan, I'm going to attempt to get through all 256 exciting scenes. At 8 scenes per level, I only have to go through the sequence (ugh) 32 times. :skull:

The damn birds are annoying. Hell, my patience ran out after playing three rounds until i lugged out my vinyl records and started playing some Rainbow. Well I am not doing too hot and the jumps feel like I am using the floating jump cheat code in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Game Genie. Not much of a scoer to look at with 12,200.

Heres is my theory to the reason why you lose life points while you are alive. Its like the suicide countdown clock. See how long you can keep Bobby from doing himself in!
