mvigor
My son Henry is about 9 months old now. He *LOVES* to watch me play video games. When he gets a little older I want to share the Atari fun with him without letting him "get his hands on" my cart collection while he is too young to treat them as 25-30 year old collectibles. I'd like to commission a few menu-driven multi-carts from Sean Kelley or Hozer video to leave out with an old system. I want each cart to contain games for just one type of controller, and I want each game to be simple enough for very young kids to play. My question to the list is this... What games are good for very young kids to play - perhaps 3 to 6 year olds? Has anyone ever taken the time to make such a list or to look at it from this angle? Chris++
You can't really go wrong as long as you avoid the games that were created especially for kids! For instance, I strongly believe that something colorful and exciting, like Frostbite or Stampede, will hold your little one's attention much longer than Math Gran Prix or Strawberry Shortcake. froggger2
Our 3 and 6 year old grandchildren love Big Bird's Egg Catch. MattyXB 's post shows a picture of this game. Level 1 has two slides, each with a chicken at the top. The Kid's Controller overlay has only a left aarow and a right aarow. Big Bird is at the bottom of one of the slides. When one of the chickens lays an egg, it rolls down the slide. The player has to get Big Bird below the correct slide before the egg reaches the bottom. Higher levels have more slides, slides that cross each other and faster eggs. After each portion of the game, Big Bird counts the number of eggs that have been successfully caught and then does a cute dance.
