Important Note: This weeks competition is over and no further scores will be accepted.

It's astounding, time is fleeting, madness takes its toll

But listen closely, not for very much longer, I've got to keep control

I remember doing the Time Warp, Drinking those moments when

The blackness would hit me and the void would be calling; Let's do the Time Warp again...

Let's do the Time Warp again!

Game Information

  • Game Name: Time Warp
  • Released By: Zellers (and others), Date Unknown
  • Left Difficulty: No effect?
  • Right Difficulty: No effect?
  • Game Mode: Game 1

Post your scores right here in this thread, and I will add them to the list. Remember to play the game with the recommended game mode and difficulty settings as shown above so that your scores will be consistent with everyone elses. The deadline for posting scores is Thursday, Aug 9th at 1:30 AM (CST).

If you want to suggest a game for future weeks, please send me a private message and let me know! I will add your game to the list. One one game per person will be kept on the list, so you will not be able to suggest a game until your first game is played! (Please note that due to time constraints, I very rarely reply to private messages... but I do read them all!)

Anyone can play! Just post a score and I'll add you to the list! Please read the Rules & Information if you haven't already done so!

Scoring Points in Time Warp

  • First and Third Rounds:
    • Each enemy is worth 20 points
    • After shooting five enemies, the point value is increased by 5 points up to a maximum of 100 points.

    [*]Second and Fourth Rounds:

    • Scores are based on timing, up to 100 points. When the ship reaches the basement, you get 90 bonus points.

[*]If you finish two rounds, you get a bonus ship.

Hints and Tips

As always, you really should read the manual. In case you don't have the manual, AtariAge has a scanned copy available, though it really isn't very useful at all.
-You can only fire one shot at a time, but you can hold down the button for continuous fire, so don't be afraid to hold down the button while playing.

-Remember that the shots of enemy craft can travel diagonally as well as horizontally. While it's more like a slight slant than diagonally, you still want to watch out.

-Easy does it during the docking sequence. You can pull back (to the left) on the joystick to slow your craft down while maneuvering through the cave (or whatever it is.) I usually take the bottom route since it's easier for me.

* Shoot the enemies when they are as far to the right as possible. The rest of the time, stay out of their way, since they're much less likely to shoot you or crash into you.

* Also, be sure to shoot the last enemy in a group when it's over to the right, becaue the new enemies spawn where the last one died.

* Here's a bizarre tip for you - if you wear glasses, take them off. If the enemy shots are blurry, they're easier to see. ;) (Of course, when you get to the docking stage, you better put them back on.)

* Also, play music in the background. It helps to keep you from getting bored and losing concentration.

I agree with the sentiment that the extreme bottom (and likewise the extreme top) are the easiest routes to take. With that in mind, try to shoot the last member of a wave when they are close to the top or bottom - the docking port appears roughly where the last enemy goes down. Also, learn to shoot at enemies while they're still on the left, before they reappear on the right - with a little practice you can easily guess their trajectory and pick them off before they even know what hit them. Finally, not sure if it's a "tip", but the fact that destroying the last enemy in a wave also destroys any remaining enemy shots still onscreen has saved my ass on a number of occasions.

Always hold the joystick in the back (slow) position on the "docking" stage. The score seems to advance at nearly the same rate regardless of spaceship speed. Therefore, you will rack up more points by going slower. Also, it makes it easier to maneuver the maze. Seems like a small bug as most would expect the score to advance fast enough to compensate for this and reward players for going through the maze at top speed. However, it doesn't seem to be the case so SLOW DOWN!! :-)

For anyone who didn't notice it in the Beamrider thread, I've extended the deadline for that game until 1:30 AM Saturday morning due to some mix-ups with the difficulty settings. Feel free to try the easier difficulty and submit a new score if you wish. Good luck!

Good choice for a game, Rom. For those using a Krok Cart or Cuttle Cart then the dump on Atariage is well, PAL. This is a true Zellers dump in NTSC, dumped by myself. Atarimania also is the only site that has all the correct dumps for Zellers if you ever need to download them.

Yes the instructions are the poorly translated and don't make much sense. The game plays pretty straight forward though.

It's just a jump to the left... And then a step to the right!

With your hands on your hips you bring your knees in tight!

But it's the pelvic thrust that really drives them insane!

Let's do the Time Warp again!

Seriously, though, for a Zeller's game, this isn't too shabby actually. Here are my personal tips:

-You can only fire one shot at a time, but you can hold down the button for continuous fire, so don't be afraid to hold down the button while playing.

-Remember that the shots of enemy craft can travel diagonally as well as horizontally. While it's more like a slight slant than diagonally, you still want to watch out.

-Easy does it during the docking sequence. You can pull back (to the left) on the joystick to slow your craft down while maneuvering through the cave (or whatever it is.) I usually take the bottom route since it's easier for me.

Anyway, for my first score it's 3,845.

It's... it's not horrible!

And the effects of the enemy ships spawning are actually... cool.

Who'd they steal this one from?

Hey, this game is not bad! I have it on Cartridge and only played it a few times but it's really fun to play a few rounds!

Another "raw diamond" from Taiwan :D

The shooting and explosion sounds are the same as in Phantom Panzer so maybe this one was also made by Bit Corp?

Anyway, my first entry for this - 9,372

Nice choice, Rom - for some reason, I had it in my head that this was just a crappy Defender knock-off and so it's been sitting unplayed on my shelf since I acquired it. No more!

Getting better. The difficulty seems to top off after a few rounds.

HES pirated this game from Funvision (the Funvision logo is still hidden in the data of the HES ROM)

Zellers also sold the Funvision version (the logo is still visible).

The Funvision version is the most original version known to exist

Remember: the only original A2600 game from HES is My Golf.

I haven't play too much since but got a low score 3,000 something. I have been more busy working on a hack of Time Warp. ;)
