SINGLE TOOTH
Picked up a few Apple ][ things from a middle school rummage sale. I got a box of computer cards, a floppy drive, and a joystick. The problem is, I'm not quite sure what these cards are. I'll make a new post for each item, so I can describe them better and have the pics separate. If you know what all/any of these are, I'll appreciate any info. Exhibit A: Seems to be a Video Card? There is a connector on the top right of the card which may have a homemade cable with a RCA style connector. The card is says Videx on it. Also there is a sticker on a chip that says Videx. I found This auction which says its an 80-column text card, but I would like to be sure. Edited August 4, 2007 by SINGLE TOOTH
SINGLE TOOTH
Exhibit B: 99% sure these are just the floppy drive controllers, but correct me if I'm wrong.
SINGLE TOOTH
Exhibit C: A buffered Grappler+ made by Orange Micro Inc. Has a printer type connector. Must be a printer card, but is it proprietary to a certain make/model?
SINGLE TOOTH
Exhibit D: Another Printer Card? Says Epson on it. Works only on Epson Printers? I dunno. I don't know why you would need different brand printer cards.
SINGLE TOOTH
Exhibit E: It also came with some loose ICs. The one must be for the Videx card, but why you need it, and where it goes escapes me. There is also a smaller one with a apple symbol on it, and 2 NECs. Anyone know what these do or go? +batari
1. Appears to be an aftermarket 80-column card. They would typically go in slot 3, accessed with PR#3, and require a switchbox to switch between standard Apple video and 80-column video. 2. Disk II controllers. 3. This will work with any parallel printer. The buffering is to allow you to use your computer while printing (with an unbuffered card, you needed to wait until printing was complete to use your computer again.) Ah, so that's what that switch thing in the guy's auction is. Thanks! 3. This will work with any parallel printer. Ah, like that old print shop program where it showed the rainbow screen then says "Thinking." then "Printing." Nice. Also explains why the card is so much bigger. JamesD
Yup... that looks like an early 80 column card for the II+. I think I have one in my II+ as a matter of fact. It was before Apple introduced the graphics card/RAM slot that was introduced with the IIe.
KrazyKaiju
If you decide to get rid of any of it try posting at the Applefritter trade/sale page. A lot of us cross collect and you might find someone willing to trade for Atari stuff. http://www.applefritter.com/forum/
