MrMartian
Can anyone help with a link to D/L schematics for the 600XL? I'm working off one for an 800XL, which is mostly the same, but I'd like to find one specifically for the 600! Thanks

griz
Is there an easy way to view/convert those OrCAD PCX files into some other more accessible graphics format?

griz
Looks like this should do the trick: http://pagesperso-orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/enxnview.html Sure did, thanks. I've attached a zip containing the 600xl schematics converted to PNG format and I hope that's okay with the original author. 600xl.zip
jowi
Sure did, thanks. I've attached a zip containing the 600xl schematics converted to PNG format and I hope that's okay with the original author. I know this is an old topic, but i couldn't find any 600XL schema's in recent topics... Is it me or is there no 6502 in any of the schema's? There is a '6520 PIA' in sheet 5, designated as U21, but that should be the 6502... Anyone else who got schema's? +MrFish
Just added a few PDFs to my Docs page after I scanned some stuff. Thanks! Nice general quality; but it's a little hard to read some of the finer print. Would it be possible to do at a higher resolution, and/or up the compression quality? Mathy
Hello MrFish I just checked the files. I can temporarily enlarge them using "Preview" on the iMac and read everything just like on the original schematics. Sincerely Mathy

+MrFish
Hello MrFish I just checked the files. I can temporarily enlarge them using "Preview" on the iMac and read everything just like on the original schematics. Sincerely Mathy Hi Mathy, I viewed it in "Preview" for Mac and also in "NitroPDF" for Windows. It looks the same in both, so I don't think it's an issue with the reader I'm using. The screenshot below is how it looks zoomed in (click to view properly). It's certainly not bad quality at all; but it seems for something with such fine print, it would be helpful to have a little higher quality. It's not that it's too difficult to figure out some values; but I think it would ease using it. It's fine though. I appreciate the work you've done on it, and it's certainly not a necessity to redo. These are neat documents to have archived. Just lending an opinion here... Thanks again, MF Edited November 8, 2018 by MrFish

If you scan them as TIFF or PNG and post them here (or PM them) I can stitch the pages together and PDF them.
Mathy
Hello MrFish I'll have a look at them later. The current scans were done in color, I'll try grey scales and a bigger resolution. Since I'm using Apple products, PDFing them is no problem. A problem might be stitching them together, as the right and left pages overlap slightly. The reason I suggested helping PDF them is because I have Acrobat, which means I can tweak the input settings to allow for higher quality conversion (less compression). As far as I know, it can't be done without Acrobat; unless the scanning software may have some options for it. Mathy
Hello guys I had to be at my place of work anyway (I'm in the middle of a three week holiday), so I used to copier at work for some scanning. Unfortunately, my mail address is blocked, so I've sent the scans to a colleagues account. He wasn't present at the time but has promised to send me the files tomorrow. As far as I know, it can't be done without Acrobat; unless the scanning software may have some options for it. Of course there are a lot of other solutions to it than using Acrobat. Conversion from any graphic format to PDF is simple, as GIMP - available on all platforms for free - does the trick. And if you need to OCR your PDF, there are also many other good offers for it. Acrobat is simple to use but has a lot of disadvantages. Why convert to pdf if we can get them as tiff or png? Suggest to keep it in a loss free graphical format as most people use a sort of JPG, which causes always those ugly artifacts. This is what Acrobat does internally to imported graphics. You will later on never regain the original quality of a good scan. Edited November 10, 2018 by GoodByteXL

With Acrobat, you have control over compression, all the way down to NONE (or more specifically, lossless; as it's still being compressed). I'm not saying this because I favor PDF in this case. I was offering to put it into PDF for Mathy, if that's what he chose to use for his docs. For a single page doc, there is no reason why PNG isn't preferable. Add some pages, and the preference starts to change, though. Edited November 10, 2018 by MrFish
