Nukey Shay
A rubber chicken? The problem is not the sprite shape, but how the exception was handled. In the previous example, the dragon's state was completely ignored (it was always given the ability to flip, regardless if it is living or dead). In the new one, only bitmaps that are on a specific page have the ability.

accousticguitar
I think I got it! Now for some play testing.
accousticguitar
The flip version seems to work okay so I put it in the first post.
EarthQuake
I'm still contemplating adding the flipping behavior to Odyssey. Although it is a definite improvement, it does look quite out of place for Adventure. I'll have to dwell on it some more and play around with your binary, acousticguitar. From a player's perspective, would this seem like an idea that strays from the classic feel of Adventure? Odyssey is going to be overwhelming enough with all the new playfield-related enhancements and the new dragons, castles, and difficulty levels. What do you think? Cram as much shit in there as possible? What about a seperate build with the flipping enabled?
accousticguitar
That's hard to say, since the novelty of flipping dragons has not worn off yet for me. I don't know how I will feel about it in the long run. Separate binaries would be a possible solution since people could then choose which version they preferred. In the end, it's your hack so I think you will need to make the final decision on what you think is best for it. You know your hack better than anyone else does. Nukey Shay
What about a seperate build with the flipping enabled? The difference is only 34 bytes of Rom. You could assign it to the color/B&W switch if you wanted for a few bytes more...about 60 more if you wanted that switch to be 7800 compatable. The 8k template that I'm working on already has this present (check bit 2 of CurrentStick for 7800-compatable B&W switch status).
mos6507
Thumbs up on the flipping. I know it takes some getting used to, but if one were to build the game over again, a programmer would certainly do that. I'd suggest intelligent flicker as well, but obviously that's a major kernel rewrite.
accousticguitar
I'd suggest intelligent flicker as well, but obviously that's a major kernel rewrite. But then it wouldn't be Adventure.
sandmountainslim
Why not see if Albert will put this on cart and sell it in the store? I LIKE this game! Many great adventures are part of a trilogy and we could have: Adventure Adventure Plus MisAdventure Revised It would sell like butterknives in prison! yorgle
Love the flipping dragons. Looks great guys. And please, if anyone wants to use the Missadventure kingdom in a cart or future hack, go right ahead.
accousticguitar
I'm glad you like it; Nukey Shay did a fine job on the code for that. I like how they sometimes flip rapidly back and forth when they are going straight up or straight down. There you go sandmountainslim, get that petition rolling. I already want a cart of it if Albert will deign it ok. Maybe if enough people want one it will make it into the store and someone can design a fly new label. accousticguitar
I might even have to buy one. I can't help out with the label though; I have no talent in the art department.
yorgle
Here's the label I made for my original one-off eprom cart. The image is copyrighted so it really can't be used, but I love the look.
sandmountainslim
This would made a great trilogy Adventure Adventure Plus MisAdventure Revised Where are all the label design men? We used to have folks designing labels all over the place whether they were needed or not. I like Yorgle's idea of using an early 80's style picture label on this game. accousticguitar
I'm sure this is a silly idea, but how about a text label? After all, Adventure first came out that way. I'm not sure what the number would be though.

sandmountainslim
I myself have always liked text label games If it is a pic label I think it would be cool to have Rhindle on the label.. If anyone tries a manual to the game it could start out like: "The Golden Chalice has been safely returned to the castle but an even bigger adventure awaits in another kingdom where a princess has gone missing. The magic sword awaits you..." Or something along those lines. Wp
