+Charlie Cat
Hi Guys: In your opinion, what do you believe was the most ugliest game console you ever saw in your life (so far). I mean its like looking at a batch of Week Old General Tso Chicken in your Refrigerator. Real Disturbingly Terrifying!! I believe its the Original Magnavox Odyssey System in 1972 & Emerson Arcadia 2001 was ugly to me. What do you guys think. Anthony.... midnight8
I also thought the odyssey was ugly, but the NES console I always thought was ugly. couldn't they have done something other than a box?
mbd30
The original NES has an awful design that often results in games not working due to dust, etc. I don't know why they didn't go with a simple top loader design. Unless they didn't think that it was the right time to market something that looked like a traditional video game.
Atari5200
NES came as a top loader....to late though. I don't know about ugliest system. Going by what I own, I like most of them, the computers I think are ugly, Vic-20. TI-99 4/a is pretty sharp looking though. My ugliest handheld is probably my Watara Supervision, as for console, though I hate the 7800 with a passion, I cannot honestly say it's the ugliest. hmm. I don't know...Colecovision maybe? I forgot about the coleco. I was an ugly system. I don't think the 7800 was ugly, I just wish it didn't look like a baby 5200.

Emehr
Of the consoles I own or have seen in person, I gotta say: the XBox has got to be the ugliest. Its a large chunk of plastic with a big "X" on the top. Barf. The 360 doesn't fare much better looking like a tower PC with a non-infringing Coke bottle curve. The SuperNES could have used less right-angles but otherwise I like the symmetry of the system. And calling the 7800 ugly while not citing the 5200 as ugly? They are nearly identical (and they're both slick looking, I might add ).
joeybastard
Most of them are actually pretty ugly. The 2600jr/5200/7800 look of Atari was nice. The Game Cube is kind of interesting and simple. Otherwise the rest of them are pretty ugly designs. I always thought the Genny 1/SNES/TG-16 were ugliest generation overall though.
SRGilbert
I wouldn't call this pretty, that's for sure! Edited February 5, 2008 by SRGilbert
BydoEmpire
I never really liked the look of the original Playstation. The big power/open buttons and big honkin' cd cover looked obnoxious to me - so the PS1 gets my vote. If it has woodgrain, it's all right by me! thomasholzer
This looks as bad as the NES: Edited February 5, 2008 by thomasholzer
vdub_bobby
I kinda like the NES toaster - it is boxy, but it is a nice clean design with decent colors. The original Genesis, on the other hand...ugh. So stinkin' cluttered. A volume slider. "16-BIT" in large letters. All the angles and the black make it look like a 1985 Trans-Am, a look which has not aged well. But - it was an improvement on the SMS, which has all the clutter, angles, bad colors of the Genesis, only more so. The Genesis is like an SMS with a facelift. But the SNES...now, that's ugly in a whole different way. Did they take inspiration from the XEGS (Pastels are cool!)? Actually, it looks like they took the toploader NES, which is also a decent design, and made it angular and boxy and purple (!) and ugly. Good job, guys! And I've never like the Playstation - that dull, ugly gray, that boring boxy shape. At least it has soft edges. Jess Ragan
Korea had the Zemmix, which for my money is one of the ugliest game systems known to mankind. Then there's the Gizmondo, which looks like someone at the Hostess Fruit Pie factory dropped their Game Boy Advance into the machinery. The Fairchild Channel F is bad at most things, but its most damning flaw is the heinous case design. The same thing goes for the Microvision, the enlongated handheld game system that would have trouble fitting comfortably in Paul Bunyan's pocket. And who could forget the original Xbox? It's square, it's black, and it's ribbed for your pleasure!
Emehr
LOL at SRGilbert's pic: looks like a vacuum cleaner, especially with the baggy pants behind it! I'd like to add the original PlayStation as well. That thing has not aged well at all. Now the redesignged PSone, that's a nice lil unit. I actually like the original Genesis design. The circular design on top is pretty spiffy. The volume slider makes it look dated, however...
Jess Ragan
Although I've since gotten used to the look, I always thought that the Dreamcast looked like a Japanese vending machine for feminine hygiene products.
+LS650
The Nintendo Virtual Boy was damned ungainly looking. Some of the games were pretty cool, though....
phuzzed
i always thought the SNES was butt ugly, compared to it's Super Famicon cousin. It's just all blocky. Looks like it came off fo the front of a Ford Edsel.
vdub_bobby
I've always liked the Dreamcast, it's what the Playstation should have looked like. And I like the Xbox as well; it's main flaw is that it is so freaking huge - I think the design (black, ribs) works on a box that gigantic. Speaking of redesigned units, most of the redesigns came off looking much better than the original. The NES toploader looks better than the toaster, the later-model Genny's look better than the ugly original, the PSOne looks better than the original PS. One exception might be the 2600 - I like the Jr., but the woodgrain 6-switch is real pretty. EDIT: And speaking of pretty, the N64 is a nicely shaped console. But the Gamecube...well, I always thought it looked very unique and cool in ads, but now that I've got one I'm less impressed. The handle is ridiculous and the console as a whole is just...boring. Vic George 2K3
The U.S. SNES doesn't look as good as its PAL-compatible SNES and Super Famicom counterparts. But the "ugliest" game system? I'd say the original Sega Master System comes close to being that.

I agree about the Nintendo 64. It is a nice looking system. as far as the genesis goes, I actually liked the original better than the 2 and 3 models of it. +Charlie Cat
Hi Guys: I always believed the Atari 5200 was a Drop Dead Gorgeous Console!! However, the design was to "Bulky, & Over Sized" and people in my neighborhood thought it was a "Monstrosity" for those reasons (sadly). The same goes with the Adam Computer. Anthony.... Gabriel
The Nintendo systems are all pretty ugly. There's no style to any of them other than the N64. They're just boxes, and usually a off white color that is glaring compared to anything around one's entertainment center. I'd have to say the SNES is the ugliest here in the US. It looks like it was designed by randomly assembling legos. Outside the US, I think the Famicom wins the award.
