Wanted:

  • Black TI-99/4A keyboard - One of my TI-99/4A's double and triple spaces on certain keys so I'm looking for a working keyboard to replace it that doesn't suffer from this common problem.

  • TI-99/4A cartridges - If you have any carts for sale, please post which titles you have! I am trying to make a complete set of TI carts as well as ones from other companies. Offhand, I know I need any of the MBX titles, Congo Bongo, Miner 2049er, Junkman Jr, and other rare titles.

Thank you for your time!

Regards,

Trem

I have a keyboard that I stripped out of a TI back in '93 for a college project. I vaguely recall having desoldered a short ribbon cable with connector and soldered in my own ribbon connector. If you can cope with that and don't get any better offers, PM me. It'll be way cheap.

Ha. I just went to check to make sure the keyboard was still intact and I found the original rainbow colored ribbon cable that I'd removed from the board. Sheesh, I guess I really never do throw anything away...

This "keybouncing" is a common problem on the TI? Anybody know why? Do the contacts come loose to the point where the debouncing electronics are insufficient? Guess I could tear mine apart before I toss it.

When I was modding my TI for RGB I found two different things resulted in wacky keyboard symptoms. One was that I had pulled the keyboard out so many times, the flexing of the ribbon cable had broken some of the conductors away from the PCB. I ended up desoldering the whole thing, re-stripping the end and soldering it back. I also found that if I accidently had the metal RF shielding around the motherboard pushed off it's intended path and shorting against the nearby contacts, I'd get keybouncing.

I know it's old. ;)

The TI doesn't have any debounce electronics on the keyboard, it's all in the software.

It's usually just that they get dirty, but there are no fewer than three styles of TI keyboard (that I've come across so far!) - discrete individual switches, and two types of buttons-over-contacts. In my experience the switches work best, but they're hardest to come across.

There's always my PS/2 adapter if you want a project. ;) http://harmlesslion.com/software/adapter
