Well, that took longer than it should have, but here we are.

The Double Elimination Super All-Star Summer 2008 Mega Vintage Game Shodown

has begun!

Four Battles in Round One:

BATTLE 1

Adventure for the Atari 2600 squares off against Food Fight for the 7800

BATTLE 2

The reputation-saving Ms. Pac-Man on the 2600 takes on the genre-defining The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

BATTLE 3

Luigi's debut, Mario Bros. for the arcade, is up against a classic 2600 platformer, Keystone Kapers.

BATTLE 4

And quality arcade ports square off with the Atari 7800's Centipede facing Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! for the NES.

We'll do four battles a week and we should be done before the snow falls! (Which is always a good idea for a summer tournament!)

Food Fight, because I play it slightly more and it's on the 7800 (very, very tough choice for me)

Ms. PacMan because I don't much like the original LoZ (especially after playing Neutopia, Twilight Princess, Link's Awakening, and Zelda 2, all of which I like a ton more, while Ms Pacman is still as good as ever).

Keystone Kapers by a nose

Centipede 7800 because it is awesome and I still play it, while Punch Out is unnecessary after Super Punch Out came out.

Seems like a lot of my choices were based on the fact that I don't think some of those NES games aged that well, while the 7800 and 2600 ones did.

Food Fight: Its just my favorite 7800 game. Period. Adventure is good. Food Fight is GREAT

Ms Pacman: Great translation not to mention I hate Zelda games and the NES in general

Keystone Kapers: This one was close, but Keystone beats Mario by a hair.

Centipede: Another great 7800 translation of a classic. This was again no contest since I don't care about NES games.
