Heaven/TQA
Hello Guys, some of you know that I am heavily going into Berzerk but what I was wondering is that Berzerk under OS-B (800) does have speech in Atari800win but only at the beginning in the main menu? in a youtube video I have seen that it does more speech when leaving room and when otto comes... I am refering to the 800 version... not the 5200. http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=g8m4nBy7ayI As we have the sources is there a possibility to patch??? Fandal? _Fandal_
I think this version of Berzerk has the same behaviour as the 5200 version. Just don't use OS-B. F.

TwiliteZoner
ehm, not in my Atari800win version???? Try to switch off all disks. F. When playing Berzerk through SIO2PC I hear the speech, but when I fire at the enemies there is no sound. I tried the same images through Atari800Win and the sounds are there. I am using an Atari 800. carmel_andrews
Only played the A8 version thru an emu, not the 5200 version, so i can't comment, i'm guessing they are about the same (i.e. 16k)

Heaven/TQA
ok. last bug ironed out: (well...if you are asking yourself...yes...this is the atari code running on a c64... )
Jetboot Jack
Ok - I gotta ask - why? Does the C64 not have a Berzerk clone of good quality? Or is it a technical challenge? sTeVE
Heaven/TQA
Steve, there is no official Berzerk afaik... and I was playing around with the Atari code getting over to c64. Why always the other way around... At CSDB there was a discussion going on regarding Berzerk Port and they started to get Mame plus 2600 version over (there is a prototype at codebase64 using the 2600 code plus kernel and sprite multiplexor.) My point was that when looking at the codebase it should be possible as the Atari Berzerk is not "top notch" code... look what the 5200/800 version offer: - Digispeech (4bit) - static 160x200x4 screen - 4 hardware sprites (bullets) - 2 hardware sprites (player plus otto) - jerky scrolling (when entering new room) - software bitmap sprites (robots) - $8000-$bfff game code so...which of the features are not possible on other machines??? That's why I started to get the stuff over to C64... and I tell you what... the c64 is a beast on his own and different enough from the A8... So I personally learn much (f.e. drove me nuts... writing to ROM space ($a000-$ffff) writes directly to the RAM below etc...)
Jetboot Jack
What RAM are you gonna fit it in (isn't the 5200 version 16k?)... sTeVE
Heaven/TQA
Steve, c64 is 64k ram based. so you can shuffle around data and have additional routines installed.
ThomSW
ok. last bug ironed out: (well...if you are asking yourself...yes...this is the atari code running on a c64... ) OH, COME ON! Maybe port something like Rambo or Last Ninja to Atari instead of supporting other calculators! Colors are ugly (as always). No more comments, must get sth to drink now... Speaking of Bezerk on the Atari 8bit I have always thought K-razy Shootout was way more fun. I never liked the 5200 Krazy shootout, which for some reason is not the same as the Atari 800 version. Shawn Jefferson
Heaven, you porting an Atari game over to the C64 is great! Learn as much as you can about the C64 and then port the missing games over to the Atari! Seriously though, whatever is fun for you! There's too much politics in everyday life to get worked up about 20 year old computer rivalries...
Jetboot Jack
Right I get it So are you gonna fit the game into a C64 cart image - if so what ROM size? If you are going just for 64k I expect an amazing game with loads of enhancements sTeVE
Rybags
I think he's just porting it for the sake and learning experience. For 64K, who'd bother with Berzerk? An enhanced Shamus would be a ten times better idea.
