N64 prototypes of unreleased games

Taz Express was released only in PAL form. I own it, and it's a pretty decent platform game.

Here's a link to scans of my box and cartridge. Screenshots are on the back of the box scan:

Is there any out there? I'd love to see what Addams Family Pinball would have looked like, NP had it listed as one of the first 100 games to be released for the N64. Also, Taz Express looks interesting but i don't think it got released either.

Having spoken with the programmer, I can confirm that Addams Family never got past some basic engine tests. They hadn't even implemented any graphics before it was canned.

Addam's Family? Did you talk to Tim or Jeff?

We had the ROMs emulated and audio happening, I believe. And the playfield was rendering with a ball bouncing around - it was a fantastic 3D re-creation down to every detail. We had an Addam's Family machine in the office for reference (We scanned the bare playfield with a giant scanner, too, IIRC). Yes, we played almost too much of the pinball. BUT - It was intended to be included in the Midway Collection that eventually was released for N64.

I *might* have a flash rom of it. I can't promise, but I remember holding onto it or the rom image for quite some time. I can't promise anything.

It was turning out nice, with broken physics but working.

Would love to see that in action.

Hey Mike! I Didn't know you posted here. It was Jeff that I spoke to, though I might have misinterpreted what he said, which was:

"The graphics models were complete, but had not been integrated with the other pinball code. There was very little work done on the graphics engine at that point, as focus was on getting the physics accurate and efficient.

So, it was playable, just not commercially pretty."

Hope you find it, would be neat to see. I can't in good faith call Addams Family my favorite table (that honor goes to Fun House), but it is definitely up there, and I would have been all over a home version back then.

There aren't any Freakboy prototypes floating around are there? Now *there* was a game with promise. Based on what I remember, they had a really nice version of the game put together that was very fun, but it was dark, and Nintendo didn't like that. They were forced to change things up considerably until finally, the game had become such a piece of crap that they had no choice but to can it. I'd love if that fun prototype were available somewhere.

I still hope that the ECTS 2000 Dinosaur Planet somehow magically appears out of nowhere and lands on my doorstep.... I played the demo at ECTS back then and loved it eventhough it was just 5 very limited areas of the game to explore

Was it much different from Star Fox Adventures?

Has everyone forgotten Earthbound 64? I doubt it was very far along at all before it was canceled, but it would still be neat to see what it would have looked like.

Wasn't Super Mario Sunshine originally an N64 game?

Not exactly. There was supposed to be sort of a Super Mario 64 2 (AKA Super Mario 128) game made for the Nintendo 64, then for the Gamecube, but what ended up happening in the end was basically some elements for the planned Super Mario 128 game ended up in Super Mario Sunshine. I don't think Super Mario Sunshine itself was ever planned for the Nintendo 64.

It sickens me how EarthBound 64 just fell into oblivion... That game would have been Nintendo's answer to FF7 if it was released around that game's release. It would have moved N64s and been highly acclaimed along the lines of OoT and SM64... Oh well... :(
