[*]Slime - Again looks like joystick control am I missing something?!

As far as I remember SLIME is switchable between joystick and trackball (like Missile Command?) which makes sense as the movement of the deflector-placing inverted V "crosshair" is two-dimensional but limited to the screen area.

I think you have to hit the T key to switch to trackball mode.

Great game, BTW!

  • Super Clown (copy I have is corrupt)

I found a working Super Clown here:

http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/collections/hol...0M-Z/index.html

No sign of paddles support in it, it's a joystick game.

Thanks hunmanik, maybe there is another version kicking about somewhere?

Regarding Ratapede, maybe the p in the filename is for a paddles version?

Anyone got copies of the other games (see above) :?:

Okay, I suggest playing all the paddle games to determine the paddle master in HSC for some bonus round.

Plays like Arkanoid on Amiga.

With the CMI08 in paddle-mode you can even play Arkanoid with the mouse like Arkanoid on Amiga... ;)

CU

Irgendwer

I recommend this device highly. It is really fun to play those paddle game with Christian´s device. You control this thing completely with the mouse buttons, so it is possible to use it with Atari 2600, C64, Amiga, Atari ST, Amstrad CPC and so on (well, and you can play Arkanoid with it on real Amiga).

Anyone have URL for Chisler? I think it used paddles and I it was a type-in game I typed in from some magazine but don't know where those disks are where I saved it to.

Thanks for the overwhelming # of replies, but I spelled it differently; Chiseler (w/two Es) is on Atarimania.com and does use Paddles.

I did pull together a lot of these games onto a few disks, I'll post them all one day ;)

You can also get a listing for controller types on Atarimania. Here's the paddle listing: Paddle Games. Of course you're going to get a lot of pinball games there. ;)

I was wondering if there are some suggestions for using a trackball as well? I did a listing for that on Atarimania and only a couple came up, besides the obvious "Missile Command" & "Millipede": Trackball Games

I know "Centipede Arcade" also supports it too (not listed at their site).

BTW, I love the LACE logo title (in "Kriss Kross", and in TBXL docs disk). Awesome little piece of coding. Looks like it's using narrow screen and display list manipulation of Antic F for the effect. Nicely done!

Checkout this thread for Trak-Ball games, I did a compilation disk for these too, will post one day ;)

I hope you noticed that those Paddle Games URL doesn't list all Paddle games. For example, the Chiseler one that I mentioned earlier doesn't show up in that list although it is present on Atarimania.

Yes, I did check that before. Obviously Atarimania's database is not complete yet.

BTW, I wish there was more focus on the 8-bit section. A lot of time is spent updating the other systems that have been added there.

I know this is an old thread. On searching for a single file for chiseler I came across this thread that directed me to the version on atarimania. I typed this game in back in the 80's and included it on a thing called a kramdisk. My versions colors a very different than the version on atarimania. Perhaps I made a typo.

Fandal has updated his Chicken (Synapse) with the one I had with the superb clucking sound (when you collected a chick!)

Playing a few paddles games in the High Score Club if anyone wants to try any: hsc12-round-17-pad-turn-the-paddles-tourney/ there are two ATR images on the first post.

sneakers.pngSneakers is a new one to me, and is pretty good, Aliens was another recent find :)

Okay,

testing some more Paddle games, I found out a few things and also have a question:

- AE (by Broderbund): How do you activate the Paddles ? atarimania does not help much here...

(tried Option, Select, P, Control-P and a few more keys without luck...)

- Clowns and Ballons: press "P" so you can choose Paddles or Joystick

- Superclown: Sorry TRBB, my version did have some garbage lines, well, because it is a TB XL version my friend made from the Basic original (the garbage are TB XL statements like DPEEK, PAUSE, etc.) and errm, it still uses joystick; but I know that I once had a Superclown version for paddles...

- Ratapede: paddle 0 moves left+right, paddle 1 moves up+down, joystick up fires ! And since Paddles do not have "joystick up", I did send a request to Fandal yesterday and he changed / fixed it, so now it is joystick left/PTRIG 0 - thus it works now. (Trigger of Paddle 0 fires now.)

Afaik, Fandal does not want to host it on his database, because it is just a hack of Munsiepede2...

- Asteraxis: Your viewings are fully correct TRBB. I tested the game a few days ago, you have to press the trigger of the second paddle to start the game (strange), in the game you can fire with the trigger of the first paddle - but you cannot move (even more strange) ! Your ship is placed randomly and you can only fire ? Thats not a paddle game, maybe another case for Fandal ? Asked him and he replied, that the authors have never seen a paddle, because the game barely works on the emulator and not at all on the real hardware. Since the game is only 2KB short, he did not want to add another 1-2KB for real paddle controls (otherwise he c/s/would rewrite the whole game and its not worth it for such a game)...

- Chiseler & Prison Ball (or Prisonball) are both from the same author (John Scarborough); Chiseler was released in Compute`s first book of Atari games, while Prison Ball was released in Compute! magazine. Strange thing is, Chiseler was a pure ML-program and had to be typed-in with the MLX program. Prison ball however came as an 88 sectors / 11KB Basic program with 99% data lines, which took quite long to initialize. My idea was to compile it with the TB XL compiler and then create a XEX file with the CTB-linker -tested it yesterday and it worked, approx. 1 second for init, but 190 sectors in length ! Fandal`s solution was much nicer, he created a pure ML-file from the data lines that are less than 3kbytes short... and of course have, well, also 1 second for init... ;-)

Enough for now, have to find that Superclown version/hack for paddle controllers (yes, I already found Superclown by J. Magdziarz and Superclown 2 by M. Kempster, but not the paddle version/hack)...

I now see that Broderbund catalogs

http://archive.computerhistory.org/resources/text/Broderbund/Broderbund.Software.1982.102646180.lg.pdf

http://www.mocagh.org/broderbund/broderbund-catalog.pdf

are clear that the Atari version of AE is joystick only.

Several of my newer games have the option to play with paddles as well as Trackball, Driving Controller, and Keyboard. Anything where you need to control an object that moves in one direction or rotates. I know 90% of the people like playing games with the joystick.

Just downloaded all Paddle games (except the pinballs) from atarimania. So, AE is no Paddle game, good to know. Another one that does not seem to work with Paddles is "Body Parts", I connected my Atari Paddles and nothing. Instead the game seems to use the cursor keys without control (+-*=) and the Return key. Looks like another false Paddle entry at atarimania to me...

The description of the game (when loaded) is nice: "Body Parts - a sexual adventure...". Whatever you expect, it has nothing to do with it and is extremely boring. Choose row, press Return, choose column, press Return and wait for the stupid commands of the program (e.g. eat something, drink something, sit on the lap of your partner, etc.)...
