Are there any CPU accelerators or the like for the 8bit line does anyone know...?

I found this for the C64:

VERY NICE...

I wonder if anything like this could work thru the XL/XE expansion bus?

Yes, there was the Dataque 816 (or something like that) and FTE also had board with the 16bit processor. Both required opening up the computer. IIRC, the xl/xe bus does not have all of the lines required to replace the CPU.

You mean you guys haven't heard of the Commodore One yet? It's going to be amazing! And what until you see who is designing it! The person has said the they were interested in making an Atari 8-bit version when they where done. I have my fingers crossed. Go check out the specs.

As far as the Dataque 816 and the FTE 16bit processor board go, they where made in very small number and had no software written for them. So even if you could find one, they're as useful as an Atari 1090 expansion unit.

It looks exciting and it would be wonderful to have a new 8-bit compatible Atari after he finished with the C64. However, its been a while since the site was updated. The pages are dated about 8 or 9 months ago with promises of big things in a few weeks and then nothing. Hope that this situation is just a temporary.

What's the point in buying that for your c64?  Is there any new games that use the addon?  Does it really do anything worthy of spending $200 on it?

Well, first, you wouldn't buy it for your c64. It is a c64! And then some! The idea isn't just to have knew games, although there is a lot of potential. It's the whole c64 experience. Your right, there is no software for it but that will come. Besides you have to build the hardware before you right the software. If your just looking for new games, buy a playstation. But if you want a c64 with a lot more power than the original, then get the Commodore One when it comes out.
