amplify or improve pokey sound?

Howdy *.*!

I'm planing to upgrade my xe to freddy offengas stereo deluxe upgrade. Having stereo is just fine, but the pokey sound isn't very bouncing at all. Even with a very bassfull hifi setup the music plays all time very high-noisy and some kind of squeaky.

I've heard of several c64 filter-upgrades or sid audio enhancements. But, at this moment, I can not find any of them in the net. But as a matter of principle, there should be a way to use those c64 inventions in our favourite computer, right??

What do you think?

There is a mod project around somewhere to add a second POKEY to the 8-bit to give it stereo sound, and there is a music generator program and a few Euro video games that support this modification, one game is calle Dynokillers, a bomberman type clone with good graphics. unfortunately I don't know where to find the instructions for this mod, on the net, but I do know the second chip is installed "piggyback" style on top of the first somehow...I'll look for the link to Dynokillers and they may have a link there for the double poeky mod...here's the link to where Dynokillers stereo game is...

well, I know that, because I already have a stereo upgrade. this is not my problem. It's more the sound itself.. I have huge Yamaha stereo at home, which is extremly bassfull and bouncing, but not with my atari. even the techno-stylish sound from the polish demos isn't very powerfull at all. So I've discussed with fox1 about a self-built amplifier to enhance the frequencies for getting more power..

any out-of-the box solutions?

Sure, just buy a pre-amp and plug the audio-out into it, then into your amplifier...a small pre-amp, maybe 10watt should suffice. For example, when you run an Atari Jaguar's sound ouput into a stereo amp, it sounds alright, but other systems are much louder, but when I used to have the catbox periphrial connected to the Jaguar, it had a small pre-amp built in for headphone use, but this also worked wonders if you used a simple mini-din phone-jack to RCA coupler (available at Radioshack for a couple bucks), and then ran it into the stereo amp. The sound quality became better than that of other consoles. This pre-amp in the catbox was very small...just enough for headphones really, like those in cd-walkman's, but it worked wonderfully as a pre-amp in this way.
