Its 25 years ago today (May 21st 1984) that the Atari 7800 was first announced to the public. To commemorate its birthday I thought that a little homebrew was in order. Some screen shots attached :-

No binary is available at the moment.

Many thanks to espire8, gambler172 and Bakasama for helping to get it this far.

Its not going to be a clone of a certain well known other game involving rocks and diamonds. There are no enemies in this game apart from gravity!

I'm hoping to get the AtariAge community involved with some level design. All contributors will get their names in the game's credits. I'll have more details to follow about that later.

The game is still a work in progress, and far from finished. It doesn't even have a name!

Comments and suggestions welcome!

EDIT: Changed thread title to reflect the game's new name.

Wow... looking good. Same mechanics though I assume? Got a lot of promise already...

Thanks for the compliment. Its only a two week old rushed project . The physics will be easy to learn ;-).

It was "working" on real hardware until I added the physics :(. Its not flip screen and scrolls in 4 directions. Its got some glitches :(. As soon as its working on real hardware again and I've ironed out more bugs I'll post a binary. Its also written in pure 6502 and not with the "c" graphics library I've developed.

It reminds me of Dark Chambers, Bill & Teds, Gauntlet... what kind of game did you have in mind?

They are top down games, this is more drop down ;-).

How about Harvest Moon Link Edition 7800? :D

The game's scrolling engine can support large "worlds". If you had a 16K RAM cart you could get 10x10 screens worth of playfield area.

I'm up for any sort of game development if somebody wants to draw the graphics .

A binary will be available when I've got a playable level together.

Cool! Can't wait to see.

Looking at this, I'm wondering if the 7800 could do a decent "Golden Axe Warrior"? It doesn't really scroll (except to quickly slide from screen to screen) but does make good use of color.

The 7800 needs a good RPG.

Just checked out the

vid.

Something like that would be achievable with this game's engine. The big killer for projects like that are always the graphics :(. A custom 7800 cart with 4K bankswitching and 8K/16K RAM would be nice too.

IMO the game looks a little like Bible Buffet for NES. Maybe a combination between Bible Buffet and Exodus for NES.

Hmmmm.... Looks like Bible Buffet, but it plays nothing like it ;-). If anybody can recommend a good (well free) *.AVI to *.GIF converter I'll post an animation of it running.
