RucasRiot
I just filled up my third megafile 20 and I am now on a continuing quest for more disc space! If anyone has an extra hard drive or two for the ST, I'd like to know what you're asking!
LinkoVitch
perhaps open up the megafile and swap the SCSI disk for a bigger one? should be able to find a cheap small SCSI disk on ebay. Will an ST recognise a 2 Gig disk I wonder? I know they still make them.
RucasRiot
As I understood it the Hard-drive in megafile was not scsi but acsi i believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.
LinkoVitch
I doubt it would be ACSI. That this the type of the port, but then you had an adaptor which converted to SCSI. I guess it would be most cost effective to buy in other manu's drives like Seagate etc and then just build a small adaptor. This is the way my ST HDD worked (not a megafile). I would have though Atari actually building it's own drives would be too expensive. Easy way to tell would be to open it up and have a look. atarian1
Megafile hard drives are either RLL or MFM drives. I don't recall any of these types of hard drives having more than 100MB. They're really old and hard to find now, so I don't know if you can stuff another HD inside the Megafile case. You might find an old MFM or RLL drive at electronic surplus stores or on eBay. IMHO, gut the thing and buy a new Link 97 and a SCSI HD. Now you can connect bigger easier to find SCSI drives easily.
+retrogmr
Interesting story: The controllers on the MegaFile 30/60 actually can control 2 physical drives, but one needs to be handy with a soldering iron to hardwire a ribbon cable to the traces where the second connector should have gone... used to have a Megafile 30, with a Vertex 185B 70 Meg MFM drive formatted RLL to kick it up to 105 megs. Thing sounded like a chopper when it started up. That said, I have a SupraDrive 20 that I'd love to see go to a good home; let me know if you're interested! I've been saving up for one! As for the Supradrive and the 200mb one, how much are you both looking for for them?
