Tempest
I've got a few random questions about Intellivision prototypes: 1. Does anyone know what the differences are between Treasure of Tarmin and Minotaur? 2. How the heck do you play King of the Mountain? 3. Have the roms for Flintstones, Space Shuttle, Illusions, or any other prototype not on Intellivision Lives or Rocks been released? 4ever2600
1. Strictly title change, talked to Keith Robinson about that one at CGE a couple times in depth. 2. No Clue 3. Not that I know of, Blue Sky Rangers hold a very tight noose around the necks of their protos. For the most part, they are constantly looking for ways to still commercially release those on more CD compilations, all in one joysticks, or carts for the systems. Can't say I blame them... KIWASABI
Not that I know of, Blue Sky Rangers hold a very tight noose around the necks of their protos. It's pretty amusing to me how long they've successfully milked all of those 25-30 year old Intellivision games. Maybe eventually they'll consider making new games again rather than just writing Intellivision emulators for every platform imaginable... -Adam Edited July 17, 2009 by KIWASABI
yuppicide
If they released new INTV games, I'd be interested. Is there even an INTV homebrew scene? Are there dev tools out there?
Tempest
Is there even an INTV homebrew scene? Are there dev tools out there? A very small one. Someone did figure it out, but I haven't seen many homebrews. There's an interesting looking Arkanoid clone called Stonix, a minesweeper clone, and one or two others. The problem is that they're always really expensive. Tempest

yuppicide
Wow. I just went to their website and it's pretty crazy.. They sold 250 copies of one game, 150 of two others, and 100 of another. Now that you do mention it I do remember seeing 4-Tris awhile back. Is there even an INTV homebrew scene? Are there dev tools out there? A very small one. cparsley
To answer 1) According to their own site, Minotaur was a pre-release version of AD&D Tarmin that did have a few bugs in (they may have fixed them before releasing them on Lives!) 2) King of the Mountain is a fun game, damn it... Your goal is to climb from the bottom to the top of the mountainside, without dying of starvation, thirst, etc. About each 1500ft or so of the mountainside, youll run into a shop to buy more supplies, sell off the hides of the animals you have shot, etc. The kicker is to buy enough supplies to get up the mountainside, but not too many that you are weighed down as to not make it to the top. (The more supplies you carry, the slower your climber climbs) 3) Those files are probably somewhere, long lost forgotten to all but a few select BSRs... +Psionic
The irony of the Intellivision 'scene' is that Intellivision probably has a better documented history than any other console from that era (due to the efforts of the Blue Sky Rangers in researching and documenting everything over the years), but even so it has the least amount of homebrew and prototype releases. It's a shame.

It's a shame. I think there are two reasons for that: the unusual cartridges (if it used standard EPROM cartridges, it would be a lot easier to get homebrews made), and the unusual hardware (the 1610 is a pretty odd duck and there haven't been any cross-development tools until fairly recently).
