rhindlethereddragon
So far, I know that my options are: #1) use the keyboard. Not to be snooty, but the control is a little clunky. By the way, what's the other button besides the "space" key? #2) use the Atari 2600 controller. This is great, except for the second button.. I have various controllers to try out: Atari 7800, Colecovision, Master system, etc.. could plugging any of them in damage anything? I'm hoping the Colecovision controller will work. Will it? Also, I have a "modified" genesis controller that I just bought for my Vectrex. Could this possibly work on the MSX? I want to ask before I try it so I don't mess anything up. I'm hoping I can get away with NOT spending $30+ for an MSX controller. Thanks.
STICH666
Master system controllers should work and since tehy only ahve 2 buttons it should be perfect.
98PaceCar
If you search on assembler, there is a post about modifying a genesis pad to work with an msx. It's not hard to do and seems to work perfectly.
darthkur
I would advise against the "trial and error" method with those other controllers. I'm not certain that any of them would cause harm but they might. The joystick pinout is MSX specific and not Atari compatible. The only other system that I can think of, off the top of my head, that used the same set-up was the Sharp X68000 computers. Like mentioned above, I'm certain there are ways to converting controllers to the MSX standard. The specs for the MSX can be found here: http://pinouts.ru/Inputs/JoystickMsx_pinout.shtml
Seob
You want one of those, they are pretty indestructible. Arcade joystick

The other button is the 'M'-key if I remember correctly. I always used one of these:
nathanallan
Making a new cable for the 2600 joystick wouldn't be too hard, adding a second button might prove tricky but can definitely be done.
Tempest
A bit of a bump. I have a NES pad that has been modded to work on a 2600/8-bit. How hard would it be to mod this so it worked on the MSX instead with both buttons?
